Moving assets to tax advantage account / Megabackdoor

Lyft opened up mega backdoor IRA so I am doing that now. I'm trying to move my individual stocks to the IRA so I can trade in that account and keep my boring index funds in taxable account. I have a lot of capital losses (from Lyft IPO taxes and I sold a bunch more to buy Uber and pandemic recovery instead) and a whole bunch of unrealized gains and I kinda like that.

I think you mean mega backdoor Roth 401k (not IRA). 401k plans can only be funded from your paycheck. You can't transfer stocks from your brokerage portfolio or write a check into the account.

Yes this is what I'm doing, funding from paycheck, i am thinking of selling my stocks in my taxable account and buy the same stocks in the IRA (the post tax 401k can be rolled over to a normal Roth IRA)
