I am from India. Moves to the US and successful (not monetary but also personality wise evolved) I see folks within US (like move from Iowa to Seattle) and they fell evolves similar to what I say moving from India to the US. My mom moved from Uttar Pradesh (a state in India) to Mumbai. She always says she is so glad that she moved because she evolved as a person (ofcourse money was the component but she appreciates the conducive culture) It got me thinking, Is moving the only way to evolve to expand ordinal horizon? What do you all think? It's nuanced so don't want to make a poll
nah man id rather have friends and family around than success or evolve
I agree that new env and people around will have a major impact on you. But not everyone can do this, so some people are stuck where they are. But most people who don’t move from some countryside to a newer, bigger cities, they are afraid of challenge and change.
I think everyone should do what they are comfortable with. Afraid of challenge/change is exactly how I would describe myself before. Not like now I am not afraid but definitely feels confident and more in control even with the change
As an American who was born and raised in NYC area and lived abroad after high school. I’ll tell you the only people who are stuck are the poorest people in labor driven casting systems. Those farmers you’d think want to move to the city are happy living a bliss, social media exposure has altered this country life experience for the worst.
You grow when you are uncomfortable
That's what she said.
100% agreed!
Moving from Seattle to a village in India will not make you successful
Well, evolution doesn’t only mean monetary success. People move to smaller places for peace of mind. That is also evolution of mind?
But why not monetary success? People are leaving their corporate job to try novel farming and getting successful. Making more money than their previous jobs. We have a skewed perception of what jobs make money. A software monkey is not the best way to be rich, its just a predictable way.
Just because you got more wealth doesn’t make you more “evolved.” You are being incredibly disrespectful to your ancestors. Also I can name many cities which have less wealth but much more culture and better quality of life than Seattle.
I've read 'evolved' so many times, this thread is giving me Pokémon vibes.
Dude his mom evolved after leaving UP. She must’ve found a bunch of rare candies 🍬
Amd - dont know the references
You could move to Blore and get evolved. It is cheaper to move to Blore.
I evolved to become a homebody to avoid breathing polluted air. Not a healthy evolution I suppose
I did! I moved from Mumbai to Bangalore (lived for 3yrs before moving to the US) I can definitely see transition in myself when I moved to Banglore and now living in the US, I see a lot of differences between pre-Bangalore me, post-Bangalore me, living in the US
The most common "evolution" I am aware of is one of political views. People turn more liberal/left or become more conservative than they were originally to combat the influence. What forms of evolution are you referring to?
IMO, more than political views, people become more open to other people's perspective
So many people move but they do not evolve. E.g. all the Indians moving from india to other countries, take with them their caste, culture(including superstitions). You can evolve if you keep your mind open. Evolution can happen through reading and learning from other’s experiences as well. But yes, moving does give you a solid option to evolve.
That's true. At the end, it is also on the person whether they learn from the new experiences or not
It’s the traveling that evolves your brain. Moving involves travel. But you can always travel to new places without having to move.
In Hindu mythology, the four pillars of learning are indeed "reading" (or studying), "guru" (teacher), "travel" (experience), and "reflection" (self-awareness). These pillars are considered essential for acquiring knowledge and wisdom.
