I work at Intel Folsom campus and have an opportunity in Intel Rio rancho campus in NM. They are paying me good and on par with TC offered in bay area. Do you think it is a wise decision to move considering Intel being the only tech company in NM? Will I be loosing plethora of opportunities in CA<specifically bay area>. Is that a backward path for my career from location perspective?
How do you feel about your prospects at Intel in 2-4 years. If you feel positive about that, you should go. Otherwise it’s not worth it in the long term in my opinion. Bay area is crowded and annoyingly busy but we overlook many of its positives from food, Culture, diversity and growth
But like many are saying I can always move back if things doesn't work out.
Cost of living (housing) in NM is so low compared to FM and bay area that this might be a good move for few years. You can live on a single salary and save a lot if its FM salary. Life may seem slow (no rush/hassle free) and laid back, but that is also good some time. Great places to explore in CO, AZ, NM and UT. Definitely less job options but can always come back.
How close are you to retirement?
30+ years
NM is a culturally rich state with incredible landscapes and a quality of light beyond compare. If you are motivated by its deep native heritage and incredible beauty, if you care more about being outside than inside, if you want to experience a unique and distinct culture and food, if you value world class art, NM can be a wonderful long term home. If your career plan involves job hopping in tech for big sign ons, move elsewhere.

The end of Backdoor Roth?!
There are tons of startups/companies offering full remote if Intel doesn't work out there. I also doubt Intel is the _only_ tech job you could get there. There are likely lots of no name companies that would be fine to work for. And you can always go back to the Bay Go for it. Enjoy that high TC with low COL
I meant Amongst the giant tech companies.
I like your last sentence :)
