I’d like to move to Europe (for a few years, at least) for a different perspective. My partner and I are programmers and have a preschool age toddler. Advice about moving, work culture, weather, taxation, culture, etc please.
Pick a country first. Its not one country. Ever part that you're asking advice for varies hugely.
Lets begin with England.
Best place to raise your toddler: Switzerland, Sweden, or Finland. Best place for tech roles: London, Berlin, Amsterdam Highest wages and quality of life: Switzerland Most cosmopolitan and open cities: London, Berlin Best weather: Barcelona, Madrid, Switzerland Don’t worry about tax - it all equals out based on salary levels. Plus you’ll pay US tax on earnings above $120k or so (single earner).
Thanks!
I forgot to add there’s gun control and so no school shootings. Oh, and no Donald Trump. 🤣
Thanks!
Sorry, perhaps I’m being dense here, but you mentioned “low tax country”, which left me wondering. How exactly does taxation work as a US citizen?
Apple has an office in Europe?
In Zurich; they are expanding but very focused in a few niche areas. Plus they now have some R&D activities in England.
Europe is not a single country or culture. This is your first lesson.
Maybe that's the point
I don’t mind moving there even if it’s not a single county or culture. I’ve lived sufficiently long in America to enjoy multiple countries and cultures. Were you trying to persuade us to move or to dissuade us from moving, then? Thanks to you, i no longer need to fill up the rest of this PDF I downloaded from the Googles titled “Application for Immigration to the People’s Democratic Sovereign Nation of Europe. One Nation. One Culture. Do not write below this line. —— For Consular use only”
