Have been thinking about moving to tech because of better wlb, perks and culture... It’s not easy given my age (31) and lack of tech related experience. Treasury/Finance team in Tech may be the only possible option. Is it worth it? What shall I do? Wlb is tough in my current role. And I neither like nor dislike my job but just feel stressful sometimes. Curent TC is 200k+. Asset Management role. My partner is a L6 so household TC is around 850k with stock appreciation. I just want to find a place with better work life balance in case we want to have children in the near future. Any advice is highly appreciated.
31 years old? You're still a kid.
Not exactly
Go for it..
I’m younger than you and I am thinking about the same thing too
Same here. Working 90h/week for mediocre pay just shows how overrated finance is
What is the pay like?
Similar boat as you 🍿
Aren’t you already in Tech?
You should move
Also your partner makes 650k?!
He/she said stock appreciation
Forgive my ignorance. That’s crazy even with the appreciation. Didn’t think over 500K would be possible without being a Tech Lead or something
Any more specifics on your current role? I’m in asset management too in client facing role, 26 yo, 4.5 yoe.
Portfolio management
your soul will be drained
Lol, fiance is much more draining than tech. I actually like my job!
Was in your boat a couple of years back. Product Management your best bet, find a Fintech startup, best chance at getting given a shot.
Also sometimes you can find tech adjacent roles at your own firm. Where they are building innovation which you actually have relevant context. YOE 4.5, TC 150k, 26
Good advice thank you!
