Moving from testing to dev

I would like to move from a testing to dev role. Right now I'm in an automation testing role, which requires some programming skills, but how do I go about moving to a dev role in another company. Working through leetcode and hackerrank now.

Just apply.

If you can apply internally or just within group it will be easier

I've been trying and have actually got a dev role which I start next month. But it's just usual bug fix role where I would not be doing much of programming.

But you are on the right track @dOXA64. It will be easier to convince another employer to transition from the "just usual bug fix role" than from your current QE role. Once you are in that role, brush up on leetcode skills. That way when you interview at other companies you will come out as a promising dev who happens to be stuck in a not exciting project. As an aside, all dev jobs involve plenty of bug fixing - please don't look down upon it, if you want to be in those roles for long.

Yeah internal transition would be easier. Else, be little diplomatic on your Resume

Would it be possible to get entry level roles for dev?

GlobalLogic Hopper13 Jan 7, 2018

Yes that would also be easier

Deloitte and programming ? They don’t go well together.. Move to a better tech culture based company..

Deloitte dOXA64 OP Jan 7, 2018

Yes that is what I'm looking for but I have a feeling that my resumes are usually rejected based off of my previous experience

Autodesk MullerDave Jan 7, 2018

Leetcode expertise will help you hunt down entry level positions at top tech companies

I’m on the hiring committee and I’ve interviewed a few former automation qa engineers for dev roles. I think the fact that you already got a dev role is a good sign if you like your current employer, stay for the experience. You can easily move to other projects once you’ve proven yourself.

I'm hoping to do the same (move to entry level development from QA/project management). Good luck to you :)
