Moving to Amazon from Apple, upgrade or downgrade?

You do understand this is a prestige only situation. Majority of people polling here wouldn't have worked at either. Don't play by their rules, crack the interviews and meet the team and decide for yourself. Apple has amazing engineering teams and Amazon has great talent too.
where do you think that prestige comes from? maybe it has something to do with how they treat their employees? :banana:
Or may prestige has to do with customer satisfaction, yoy growth, maybe investor confidence, say shaking new markets, literal inventions and hand in hand albeit slowly but improving employee health.
Apple seems to be making a comeback in the realm of prestige. Itโs possible Amazon could surpass it though depending on the direction they take. I would imagine Apple culture is far better than Amazonโs, but thatโs just based on grapevine talk/DMs with friends. This is really dependent on your situation.

It depends on how you measure the prestige. If it is based on the quality of hiring, I would say Amazon hiring bar is super low and amazonโs treatment towards their employees is jack shit!!! Otherwise it depends on the individual comp (you will definitely get a higher comp in amazon since you are changing companies) and the team. Regarding the brand value (perceived by people in general), Apple definitely tops Amazon. But thatโs definitely a bull shit metric. On an overall, I consider (hiring bar && comp) as a better metric to measure prestige. So, its all about how you define the metric.
