I'm from southern California but have been in the Boston area working as a Director of Eng for a Non-FAANG company. My fiance and I will be moving to MPK, with our dog and cat, in the next few weeks and are looking into housing out there. I've got ~ 2 months in Corp Housing to find an area to live. What do you all think are good/safe areas that would have a shuttle commute time of 10-30 mins? Looking to keep rent budget between $2500 - $3500, but have room to adjust if necessary. Looking for 2 bedrooms and ideally some kind of small yard. After doing some research, it seems like the budget is massively off, but being that we're going into Winter there is little housing inventory. Before I get murdered for not posting TC: YOE: 8 (~ 4 of those years are from 2 of my own companies. One that failed, and the other has been downsized to just me (because of cash flow issues a coupe of years ago), from having a team of 8, and now I just part-time it until I'm ready to FT it again. The rest are employment roles, with this last year as a Director being an FTE role). Prior TC: 120K, with equity and royalties for product development during employment. New FB TC (IC5, Partner Engineer): ~270k TC Year One - [175k base, 200k rsu, %15 annual bonus, 20k s-o] Thanks for the advice/help all.
watching and advice for single.
Commute time across Dumbarton Bridge (84W) will be approximately 35 mins from Fremont. Yes you can cycle it safely.
10 minute commute and 2500 haha. Maybe an rv across the street?
Is the higher end of the budget range (~$3500) insufficient as well? Again, I have room to play with the numbers.
Haha sorry I am just teasing and you will be fine. Honestly there are huge variances so it just depends on what you value. Would check out redwood city, San Mateo, Burlingame, and maybe san carlos. A nice 1 bedroom is 3295 ish.
3500 can get you an old shitty house in fremont with yardage. Push it to 4k and you will get a good one with good location
Hi E, congratulations on your offer. Are you in touch with our housing@ team? They have tons of resources to help you find a place.
Is it possible to get 1b1b aprt with 2k
@SweNinja, I'm not in touch with them yet, but will reach out to them when I start. Thanks.
Try Fremont just across the bridge. Family oriented and slightly cheaper than peninsula area. Forget about getting a yard with 2500 rent. Nice jump on TC. Congrats
I appreciate the suggestion. Your name says you are with Google, which seems to be just a little further away from the bridge, but still, do you have any idea of what the commute times (shuttle or drive) would be from across the bridge? Is one able to cycle it safely? Thanks again.
$5 and about 20 minutes to cross the bridge.
