Wife and I want to move to LA to enjoy our 20s a bit more. Bay area is just boring (sorry not sorry). what would be best in terms of job strategy? apply for companies like Twitch, Snap, Tinder, etc and use my current job as leverage to negotiate? TC: 175k 1 yoe
175 is low for BA. Could that be why it’s “boring” for you? Look into IBM as well and leverage your position to get a high role. A lot are remote role so you can move anywhere. Tc 225 los angeles but I’ve worked from multiple states and countries while having a home in la as my base.
OP is 1 yoe. 175k is on the high end for 1yoe and he likely won't replicate that in LA except for a small handful of companies.
I'm not sure your current job TC will provide you with leverage. If you can, get a couple offers at public companies. Focus on getting the highest amount in stock over base salary. Refreshers will stack on top of the initial grant. If your base is lower than the median, it will quickly be corrected by annual increases and promotions.
Thanks!
Not to hijack, but why do you recommend going with more equity than base?
I'd say lock down a job in LA then move. Doesn't sound like there's a rush to get down there.
Its awesome how kids these days seek most generic life advice on blind...
It’s crazy how old folks these days assume anything on blind. We aren’t from the US, we don’t have anyone here and blind advice is as best as it gets for us right now unfortunately. No need to be salty old man.
