Microsoft Layoff 2023? Saw a few posts about layoff coming on 17th of Jan. But never heard anyone talk about it in my team. How much do you think it could be accurate?
It is happening
80% accurate. These things can always get delayed/cancelled.
Switching to unlimited PTO is not a good sign though, because MSFT won't have to pay out any Unused PTO when they do layoffs
Ya, I was think why would HR bother with this change that no one was asking for. It must be to simplify a mass layoffs.
It only helps in the future, after Apr 15 or whatever the day of the payout is for all unused. Before that, still gotta pay it out
Layoff is determined by HR. Your manager and skip will not know about it. The messages come from the directors and they and HR. Your manager and skip have no say or veto power..
Not by HR.
Yes
So where did this information come from?
How many engineers does msft has?
It is 100% happening I’ve confirmed that at least one person on my team is getting axed. Yes Bing/WebXT is being targeted.
5%, mostly in sales, hr, consumer devices, r&d.
Isn’t Microsoft research one of the premium orgs? I heard they have top notch employees. Will suck if they get impacted.
Will definitely suck. But on paper, R&D isn’t directly bringing in money. And will get cut back during times like these for any org. When the economy stabilizes, there will be a big hire for R&D again as companies have extra cash to push for the next best thing.
Definitely happening
