Msft sr project manager offer

L63 Base - $137K RSUs - $90K Signing - $15K Location - Oregon YOE - 10years Received this offer today. Should I negotiate for more? It’s not significantly higher from what I receive from my current employer. I thought MSFT pays higher than average market compensation. Please let me know,

Doesn't look like it's an engineering offer. There are no project managers in engineering.

This is on the data center construction side of the business…I feel like the signing amount is much lower as well as the base pay.

Project manager or Program manager?

Sr. Project manager on the data center construction side of business

Interesting, didn't realise they had project managers for DC construction. I'd negotiate by asking for more RSUs, say 150k. Base looks alright, you could push for 140-145k.

Shouldn't the question be "how much more should I negotiate?" and NOT "should I negotiate?". Of course you need to negotiate, never accept an offer without negotiation!

Microsoft vuaD07 Sep 10, 2021

Yes, you should. I was hired onto the business side earlier this year at L61. Here's what I negotiated: Base: $125k RSU: $75k Signing: $20k, paid first year rather than over two Negotiate!

If ur at L61 then I should expect atleast 25-30K more for base at L63, right?

Microsoft vuaD07 Sep 10, 2021

I'm not sure the differential is quite that big, but I'd expect at least $140, and would ask for $145. Definitely push on signing and RSUs.

Project or Program Manager? There is a big difference between the two, and also a big difference in Pay. Project Managers oversee MCS engagements on the services side.

This is for the Sr. project manager on the data center construction side of the business.

Microsoft techie615 Sep 10, 2021

Ah okay, didn't know they had PjMs there. I don't have much insight for that side, but I can tell you that offer is pretty well inline with the PjM role in services. I'd always try to counter somehow though to see if they'll go for it

I understand there’s a question around what Microsoft should pay, but you should also be able to bring in what the construction industry pays as well. Go to Glassdoor and see what Hensel Phelps, Skanska, Schonder Electric and a few other large construction firms pay. If you are in Oregon, Intel spends billions on construction globally. It’s also a benchmark. Try to triangulate what the equivalent grade at Intel is. I think it’s a grade 7 or 8. That should be about the equivalent base or a tad more… but the bonus is probably 20% -30% of the salary plus whatever they’d offer with RSUs.
