Got the following offers recently. Having a tough time choosing one. Square: 260k Uber: 290k first year Small AI startup: 150 base + options Staying at G: around 200k Apple: Failed Roblox: Failed Stripe: Failed My background: 2.5 years experience at Google doing not very interesting work. I thought about the internal transfer but decided to try other companies first. At Google, everything is in-house designed, literally everything. Since my long term goal is to start my own startup in the future, I’d love to diversify my skills and learn more about open source technologies. Preparation: I was able to finish about 200 leetcode quickly since I was still familiar with some of the questions. What I spent the most time is system design and some behavior. I searched “system design” on github and found quite a few useful repos. Since I never did any system design interviews, I also explored a few mock interview services like Pramp, interviewingio and Meetapro. Pramp has free peer to peer interviews but it is hard to get a high quality match. Also I was not sure if I provided valuable feedback either in exchange. I eventually paid some sessions on interviewingio and Meetparo. Out of these 2, Meetapro seems cheaper and provides a better experience. I was able to ask logistic questions to the interviewers through messages. Overall, I feel that the feedback I got from mock interviews was quite useful. My only regret is not doing them earlier so I could take more action accordingly.
What level at square? Yoe? Agree that apple would help
L4
Yoe?
Lot of upside at Uber rn even with lowered offers
Uber has more interesting work than square imo but higher chances of offshoring due to ridesharing having very thin margins. Square is more stable
So Square vs Uber, I guess. I can give a strong recommendation for square, it's fantastic here. What does the Uber comp look like in year 2?
10k less for year 2. Why do you think it is fantastic, good WLB? Will the stock have more potential in the future?
Good WLB. Everyone is very friendly and relaxed. The existing revenue stream is solid. Signals are that they won't do layoffs. The company is currently growing into a "big company", so plenty of career opportunities. Downsides are the stock is way down, which hurts those of us who were hired a while back. Their comp is very good, but refreshes/etc are just ok and very weakly related to contributions. The stock may not rebound until the economy recovers. Hard to say if it's hit bottom. If I could quit and rejoin at their current offers, I'd do so and plan to work here for another 10 years.
I thought Uber had no reqs for l4, when did you apply?
They stated interviewing recently, I’ve seen several blind posts
They don’t, a recruiter told me 3 days ago they don’t have any L4 roles in the US. There are some jobs posts but was told said those are just pipeline reqs for passive sourcing and they aren’t hiring yet.
