I had the sense and execution interview yesterday. Product sense questions 1. Product feasibility analysis of a lending App. I focused individual borrowed over institutional borrowers for the MVP, and suggested both individual lenders and institutional lenders on the lending side. Emphasized on regulations a keg challenge and possibility of more frauds in Facebook. But ended with let's build after full analysis and suggesting key metrics to test. The discussion was two ways, interactive, the interviewer was guiding me but did not receive any cues#productmanager #productmanager . But the interviewer was good and knowledgeable. We exchanged ideas and the interviewer mentioned a few times I brought up good points. But initially it was not very clear what is he asking build the MVP or asses whether we build it not. Overall good exp. 2. Execution questions We started very good with intro and ice breaker, but only I said but no onto came from other side, which was kinda cold. I researched and the interviewer I guess only worked with Instagram. So I was asked depp drill on purpose of instagram stories, I said I less often use Instagram stories and really sure about the purpose but explained how it works, I insisted if we can take about other facebook apps or generic product execution but the interviewer continued to ask metrics questions on IG stories. I was not very comfortable but tried my best. Interviewer mentioned after IG story is launched, all other app usage kept going down, I was still suggesting to wait for more time to see curves tuning back as people may be busy trying new features, but the scenario interviewer gave me was 6 month only stories usage is up all other fb and IG usage going down. So I suggested if that's really bringing down the revenue significantly then if that's what impacting management most we need to roll off the new Story feature. LOL! I even asked did it ever happen in really, she denied to reveal. I covered all different points to find RCA, but seems nothing else failed except all other app usage going down. Overall I am really confused on how I performed. But overall interview exp was not the best!! Thought of sharing to help others also see what blind folks think? Am I gonna hear back from facebook? Do I have a chance? #productmanager #facebook #productmanagement #interviewquestions
You will likely be asked to do Execution again as you don't seem to have cleared the bar there but seem to have aced the sense interview.
Thank you for sharing. What resources did you use to prepare for the design and execution rounds?
Well, I am a product manager and product entrepreneur for years so I already know how product management works, I have taken multiple products from idea to launch since 2003. For FB interview I watched FB mock interviews following the links the recruiter had sent. Also, watched a few mock interviews on YouTube. Followed some PM question forums. Revisited all FB apps to stay up to date on recent features. Check 2021 facts on FB usage data worldwide. Thought over some key pain areas for facebook for next 10 years and thought of big ideas, that I could suggest for FB.
You were basically asked to set success metrics for IG stories. These are typical Execution style questions. Lot of material available, YouTube videos, Lewis Lin books, etc.
Going to be doing an interview soon and very green on the pm side of things. What execution style questions and materials (keywords) should I search for to make best use of my time? Thanks!
You are lucky that you got an obvious question for execution. One thing- never mention revenue in fb interviews. It's always about engagement unless its a brand new product.
I get that, but my scenario was suppose I am PM for instagram stories and it's a new launch. And the interviewer said after some drill downs that FB revenue was impacted for this launch as all other app usage was going down consistently for six months but IG story engagement was going up and up. (Very less likely reality), and management had to come to me the PM to take a decision.
Wouldn't there be external factors for the revenue of larger FB going down? I mean the scenario sounds like complete bullshit if you ask me and there can be a number of problems. Are advertisers still coming in? Has there been an issue with other FB apps? Did the revenue drop coincide with the launch of Instagram stories?
Ok guys, after following up twice, the recruiter sent me an email to inform that I did not make it.
Tough luck, all the best

You can still do IG stories although you haven’t used it. Just need to explain and set expectations on how stories work. Regarding drop is usage, it’s more analysis from what could have gone wrong and looking at the data. Good luck. Based on what you have explained, there is a good chance you will get to the next stage.
