Hey guys, Had a one in one with my manager I work at SAP. He has been a manager for 2 years been in salsa for 20 years prior. During our one on one last week he literally said to me he made 1 mil pretty much every year while a sales rep at SAP. Anyone have any insight on this I almost don’t Believe it thanks.
Coming from a sales background - never believe a sales guy
this is ironically funny in many ways.
If it’s a true enterprise role that is possible but those roles are very rare, even though every sales person claims to be in the “enterprise” space.
Quite possible. Since they are strategic customers they keep renewing and SAP don’t do small deals they are multi year and usually on Prem and have a lot of leverage.
^ yes but they’d increase his quota and limit his upside after 1-2 years. Don’t believe him
That sounds like those were his goals, to be honest. Managers never make what their AE’s make and the system is reset for quota and accounts every January. He has likely had a really good year once or twice. Next time he says that ask him what his best and worst performing AR’s earned in his last year as a VP…he is likely around the latter or just above.
What does an average AE at SAP make I hear so many different things.
I love salsa
Me too I love to dip my salsa in tortilla chips also

I’ve blown out my number several years in my 10+ year career in sales. You can make big money one year, then quota is adjusted to hedge against that the next year. 7 figures is an anomaly year. No company leaves that door open without it being a purely hunting role, and major increases in the hurdles to achieve pay, new gotchas baked in, etc, best case. If your manager wants to throw numbers, ask for the W2. He’ll pipe down real quick.
Making 1 million every year in sales is unsustainable. I been in sales for +15 years and done it once and seen a few good reps do it a few times. $500k consistently every year is the norm if you are good. Most tech products have a period where their products are in high demand and the competition hasn’t caught up yet, but this is a 5 year window at best for an enterprise rep to really make good money.
This is about right. I made a late move to sales and averaged 500 for a few years. Our acquisition/gtm has hurt me recently but i see a path back soon here or elsewhere. I also know people that get 1M paydays since we don’t cap. I have heard of one guy that had them back to back but that isn’t typical.
My company made $10 billion in sales.
