Sorry for the title but I am frustrated, angry, disappointed, sad, lost and everything at this point of time. I am a very career driven person, as many of us are. I had been very picky of the roles that I took, my contribution to these jobs, WLB, the kind of people that I work with and everything else that becomes a part of personal life as a result of professional life. I changed my job recently and oh boy, Iām in deep deep mess, unable to make my way out. I want to get out of my current role as the env is very toxic and disrespectful, leadership pressurizes people using employees weak points, company does not focus on employees growth/career aspirations. Everyday is a challenge and takes away a piece of my mental sanity. I know changing the job is the only way out but given the layoffs and hiring freeze, i am unable to get any interviews. After all of this ranting, I gotta go back to this job and make sure I deliver my work. So Iām seeking advise on how to keep myself going, without going crazy and not lose hopes. What would you do if you were in my shoes? Any helpful suggestions will be highly appreciated! Thanks! Edit 1: So sorry I couldnāt get back to each one of you. I will definitely do it in some time. I have been going thru comments and feel the need of addressing this, particularly for the bullies here. People go thru rough times at work place. So many comments here are a proof of that. I feel sad that a 2 YoE is laughed at, disrespected, made fun of just like that! A 2 year old can be subjected to the same toxic treatment that a 10 year old in this industry. Be EMPATHETIC, if not anything else. Has anyone ever seen a manager that treats employees accordingly to their salaries? āOh this employee is paid 300k, let me treat them rightā or āare you paid 70k? I must subject you to toxicity bc your salary called for itā Toxicity is toxicity. YoE/TC wonāt make any difference. If I donāt get to reply to all the helpers, please know that I am so happy and grateful for your the good comments/suggestions/experiences that you shared today. Never did I imagine for this post to go viral like that! Thank you for the supporters and haters.. hope you donāt experience the toxicity that many of us experience/d. Edit 2: So, after long agreements and disagreements, I was able to get out of the current work and find a new project that I really like and enjoy. My biggest takeaway from this fight was that itās very important to find the right team and GOOD LEADER (not bosses) to work with, else your life will be miserable. Also, thank you for all your wonderful comments/suggestions which indirectly pushed me to a stand for myself. #Tech #softwareengineer #help #seekingadvise
Iād quit without anything lined up as long as you have some saving. Plan to be unemployed for about 6 months and use that as an opportunity to recharge and focus on interviews
I remember there is a book called TOXIC , it might help you navigate through toxic environments and people.
Thank you! I will look it up
Author of the book? @mochipuff
Find a new job and quit asap. Or based off of your rant, get firedā¦thereās a lot to be learned character wise from getting fired at least once imo - I think it could help you to not sweat the small stuff as much. Iāve been so broke I had to cash out my 401k or end up homeless after getting fired after bad burnout. If you hate your job this much youād probably be thrilled to be fired. Iāve been looking at jobs myself and I know market has slowed a lot but if you redo your resume and spam it I find it hard to believe you wonāt get any bites even if from crappy jobs.
I feel you. Sorta same boat. Definitely keep trying to find another role. And to keep your sanity, minimize your current work and try to avoid or do less of the things that stress you at your current job. They donāt deserve your best.
Itās good to read that others resonate with my situation. āI am not the only one going thru thisā helps combatting the stress
Fuck you dude. I've been in a very similar situation and it's really no joke. Especially in the current hiring climate. It's not just about your disrespect, you could be making life much worse for op by telling them they're the problem. Fuck off.
Itās ok ! Everyone of one us goes through this kinda situation once in our career. Just be patient, relax and focus. Donāt take any decisions hastily. Switch job when you think you found the right one or if you have savings quit and search ! Cheer up, you got this !
Thank you very much for the encouragement šš»
Also OP consider medical leave from work, youād have to share with your therapist your work is causing you undue stress and youāll get some portion of your base pay while not having to work so you can get a break and look for something else. Good luck!
Almost sounds like I wrote this. My career has been a mess since getting laid off 2 years ago. Post layoff, took a role I didnāt want only because it was my only offer but continued to interview. Despite dozens of opportunities (I have a very strong resume and access to referrals) and numerous 2nd place finishes in final rounds, I havenāt gotten another offer, leaving me stuck in a role I despise
I feels good to see that Iām not the only one who feels this way. Thank you for sharing! If I may ask, how did you keep yourself positive after the layoff?
So I identify myself with same values as you, but I closely observed how folks around me at work managed to head out. They literally went numb n immune to the circus at work, in order to have a single minded focus on efforts to head out. Trust me thatās the only way. Meditation, Yoga, Gym or 10-15 min hobbies.. helped me calm down b increase my focus.
Everyone around me have been securing their positions amidst the possibility of layoffs. I havenāt been able to find a mentor at my current workplace, who could help me navigate thru this role since Iām very much new in the company. Hence i reached out to the community here and see what they would have done in this situation. I have been trying to focus my energy on meditation, art, travel etc but the fact remains that this job and the situation constantly occupies my mind.
Hey, solution for me was to not be career driven. Now I'm motivated by other things. Career is just a made-up facade that corps use to take advantage. May not help you, or maybe it will. It's just a means to an end. Lots of other hobbies and pursuit to put your drive. I say this because a perfect work setting for career is impossible and the sooner you realize the better. Switching is tossing a coin. But there's a low probability of perfect career. You need to chart your own path. Now decide if it's worth spending the energy
Thank you for sharing you experience! If possible, could you please share how you charted your path? How did you overcome any toxicity, if any, that came your way the workplace? How did you deal with conflicts?
Very insightful Salesforce. I'm starting the consider the same - not be too career driven, despite being on a visa. @OP is internal transfer an option for you, to give yourself time to figure this shit out? Find solace in your personnel life, friends and family. Utilize PTO days fully and ensure to use it to refresh and not wear yourself out

Switch job
This. I left a toxic place in mere months. Immediately told my boss this job isn't for me and he should find someone else as there's no way I'll be staying
Did they fire you? Or you switched before. Iām in same shoes right now lol
