My story: I was born in mainland China and currently hold a Chinese passport. I'm in the process of applying for a US green card. My father was involved in a financial crime in mainland China, and though he has been heard, he has not yet been sentenced. In a worst-case scenario, he might be imprisoned for up to 5 years and face significant financial penalties that could result in debt. For my own career and the reality, I foresee spending my life in the U.S. I am looking to understand how my father's situation may influence my future and that of my potential family: 1. If I have children in the future, could my father's history impact background checks they might undergo? Specifically, if they aspire to work for governmental entities like the military, NASA, the police, NIH, or the judicial system, could my father's case influence their career options? 2. How might my father's legal troubles affect my ongoing green card application (specifically NIW and EB1B)? 3. If I decide to pursue US citizenship in the future, will my father's situation play a role in the evaluation process? 4. I may want to apply for a green card for my mother in the future, especially as she aged and might need my care in the US. As the spouse of my father, could his legal issues impact her application? 5. There may be other implications arising from my father's situation that I haven't considered. If you're aware of any, please share. I kindly ask for understanding regarding the nature of my inquiries. It's challenging to convey my familial relationship and the pain he has caused me over the years. My primary goal is to safeguard my future and that of my potential family from any negative impact related to my father's actions.
don't worry, it's US, not China. There'll be no impact on you or your family. You don't own debts of your parents here.
You and your parents are totally separate entities in the US
Security clearance (esp higher levels) could be an issue for your kids. Everything else you listed is most likely okay.
Wtf? There is no way grandfather’s crime will affect a kid’s clearance.
My spouse's clearance had extra scrutiny due to his foreign parents, but it was related to his dad's military service not a criminal background check. It was not a disqualifier.
Get it done asap if you can, not to worry but once you have your gc in hand, it’s not taken back unless you deliberately try to give it up by breaking some residency rules
This is what I come to blind for.
It shouldn’t show up in background check unless you were part of it AND somehow it affected US (company, citizen…)
China is the new Soviet Union, I’d not count on a future with US gov employment.

your life != your fathers life. I dont see how this would affect you unless you want to bring him here
Also ask that from the woke crowd. Repent and reparations!
