NASA is still prestigious but not as much as SpaceX.
To HR screening the resumes? Maybe. As someone who got an offer and knows what they pay? God no. It makes me think you couldn't get anything that paid well.
Well, I think that’s why they pay low, because some people want the “prestige” that comes with it. And maybe, because is a government job.
It's probably cause it's a government job. But government jobs can be hard to get for different reasons.
I said no because I worked there...my first team was cool but they lost funding and my second team was awful...not sure if things have changed but everyone had been there forever so zero fs given about culture
I was a janitor at NASA before I got a promotion as cafeteria chef at Williams Sonoma. So I guess it helps me to start a real career.
Lmao, good one
Yes, everyone thinks the space sector is cool. But ultimately you're a civil servant and half or more of your projects will get shit canned. The ones that don't will take 7+ years to get to space. It's great if you wanna live in Pasadena or Silver Spring, not work too much, enjoy time with your kids and get a pension. But I think JPL has Cal Tech emails not NASA. So Silver Spring. You have to be a real scientist who wants to do science not a TC chaser. I miss my time in the space sector (but better paid government contractor) and sometimes wish I had stayed even though I make way way way more.
I wasted several years of my life working as a NASA (not a space agency) contractor. NASA is afraid of its shadow. Please don't put it on a pedestal it doesn't deserve. NASA name may only help you get noticed by HR but your work there will neither give you $, nor anything you can be proud of. Too much red tape
