This shit is real. So contractors better be prepared. One of my team members didnt get a renewal. we being told by our leads that this is not based on performance.
Magic leap is still around? I thought it was vaporware that evaporated
It is still around and hopefully will be. Don’t want to lose job in the middle of COVID.
Any info on the internship program?
I don’t really think so. Hiring is on frees in all sectors
True. One of my teammate didn’t get his renewal. He was given 0 day notice.
That is happening across the board
It’s happening in Sunnyvale as well
Contract renewals are not guaranteed anywhere. I don't know what is the fuss about. It does not sound like a layoff.
When the company touts stuff such as "automatic renewals" of contracts and seeing these "automatic renewals" happen first hand with multiple folks over the course of years...you're right. This isn't a layoff. It's worse since contractors don't get a damn thing when their contract isn't renewed. Enjoy that FTE status.
Even Google's is maxed at 2 years. There are contractors I know who have been here for more than 3 years. Even fulltimers are employed at will. No reason to be so dramatic about it.
even for at will employment FTE are subject to warn act , contractor layoffs across the board is an under the table operation
So.. it was a layoff...
