I am an art person, I buy the premise of NFTs — but purchasing crypto, minting, and trading are ruining my life. First Coinbase doesn’t let you trade big enough amounts of USD to ETH to buy cool NFTs, second to get access to hot new collections you have to join these inane discord servers where you are required to interact with 18 year olds and invite your friends. Then, mint something you have to pay thousands of dollars! How can something theoretically cool be so practically dumb? What details am I missing? Tc 223
Maybe what you're witnessing is a side effect of decentralization? 😂
i killed a few brain cells getting this super cool NFT for my friend and I haven’t gotten a chance to give them the keys to it yet but tbh if you find the right buyer you can make actual money. hard to believe but true
It’s a scam.
NFT’s can be a flex
Of low IQ. “Look I “bought” the shit png that should have stayed in 2003 deviant art!” with a wash sale textbook example!!! Not a flex of anything interesting.
@Amazon I sold the puppetmaster racehorse to rolls Royce stables for almost 2K. I paid like 50USD. Smooth brain investments can make you actual money
How do you evaluate if an image is a good investment?
puppetmaster was a digital racehorse that can be used to win races, breed and make ETH
Dm for coinBase referral
I grok crypto, blockchain and DeFi in general but never quite get nft beyond pure speculation. Until a dominant chain is established I don’t think I want to jump in.
Buying JPGs is absurd, people used to laugh at Star Citizen for being a JPG buying scam. Now this NFT stuff is literally buying JPGs.
Anyone that plays video games can understand NFTs. For at over a decade people have been willing to pay money for in-game items. A LOT of money. This is an extension of the same concept but (ideally) not tied to one platform (WoW gold, diablo 3 items, star citizen ships etc) There was a time where people didn't want to buy digital versions of games because they wouldn't have a physical disk to own. Well I still have my MAG blu-ray and you can't play that game anymore so what good is the disk? The digital component to the ownership in this case is more important than the physical aspect. Over time people will value their digital items more than physical. How much time and effort do people spend to make their social media profiles look perfect? Is paying money for a digital hat that offers no gameplay advantage absurd?
“First Coinbase doesn’t let you trade big enough amounts of USD to ETH to buy cool NFTs” Seems like a troll but I’ll bite :) The current pro.coinbase.com ETH USD order book is over 20 billion USD. Is that not enough for your NFT of choice?
To transfer ETH from Coinbase pro to Coinbase wallet to buy listings on opensea the funds are not available till 10 days after transferring to Coinbase pro from the bank! If you know a workaround I am all ears! If you transfer to Coinbase wallet from the bank it’s limited to 270 per week which is below what I want to buy.
Even hardcore crypto enthusiasts who believe in crypto will say that NFTs are a scam and they are right. Even techies with art background will tell you it is a scam. Listen to them. You don't want to be the one left with holding bags of worthless jpegs.. NFTs are nothing but receipts. Receipts saying that you own a thing.
You’re doing it all wrong mate.
Yeah they are dumb. But nfts as a concept have way more scope/potential beyond jpgs and art
I totally agree! I got scammed buying a fraud secondhand ticket to a concert — that problem will totally be solved with NFTs! But it’s so weird to live in a world where a retweet from a guy with a cyberpunk profile pic can be life and death for an artist
the “cyberpunk” profile pic needs to be at a performant blockchain. most aren’t yet
