San Francisco already offers “free” college to residents, however if you look at what your propery taxes goto, guess what, a big chunk of it goes to subsidizing colleges in the city. All the left (socialists) want to do is redistribute money from the rich and provide “free” services to the poor in exchange for votes. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wsj.com/amp/articles/new-mexico-unveils-plan-to-offer-free-college-tuition-11568832703
I don’t think only those who can afford should attend college. There should be ample low interest loans available for anyone with potential to repay it —that is for those who demonstrate academic excellence and major in a field with potential to earn.
How about lowering college costs instead? Oh but that will never happen. UC schools are non profit in name only.
Giving low interest loans actually drives up college costs. If you want college to stay competitive don’t subsidize students. This way college will compete to become the best investment
Government and society gets a big roi for subsidizing college (for degrees that lead to higher earnings and more contribution to society).
College students generally don’t vote. Your theory needs some work.
Boo hoo. Someone seems to have forgotten the entire UC system used to be free. Much of the NY public system used to be free. Free public college isn’t impossible.
But free public college for ‘everyone’ is
Cute play on words. ‘Everyone’ can’t qualify for admittance at public schools, as is currently the standard. So yes, it most definitely is possible.
What’s the point of going to a free college for 4 years if at the end of the day you don’t qualify for any new jobs? If everyone has a useless college degree, it doesn’t matter at all. Go do an apprenticeship or a trade school
So you think only those who can afford college should get degree so they have a lag up over those who cannot afford it?
I’m saying what’s the point of a useless college degree? If you qualify and have the grades to get a STEM degree then by all means it should be free of cost or at least discounted to people of lower means. But raising taxes to pay for everyone to spend 4 years smoking weed and studying basket weaving is stupid
