I interviewed in NVIDIA for a Sr. Engineer ASIC Design position. I am an IC4 currently in my company. What is a reasonable ask in terms of compensation? I don't want to ask too low and then get stuck at that level. My current comp at Apple is 170k (base) + 30k (yearly bonus) + 600k unvested RSUs. (6+ years of experience in the industry) #nvidiasalary Interview experience: This was my second NVIDIA interview in two months. The first one was in a different team, where I was rejected immediately (not in the same field of work as current position). Had 2 phone screens. In my field, there are some standard interview questions. I felt first phone screen tried out how the candidate solved unconventional problems, how you think through problems to solve. Second phone screen was standard interview questions, just checking the strength of the basics. Onsite interview had five 45 minute sessions + recruiter talk. very respectful and pleasant interviewers; even when you are not doing well. Lot of general problem solving questions outside the field of work. They see how you solve a problem apart from technical depth of knowledge. Was still challenging. But loved the unconventional problem solving experience. Didn't expect to get through, so was surprised to get a positive response.
Ya Probably won’t beat your current comp specially with that RSU.
OP, why planning on leaving apple?
200k base + $100k/year + 75k sign on will be a good start
Per year?
NVIDIA initial rsu is not that low. For IC4 it should be around 250k-300k. Or you mean per year?
Ya. 100k is probably high for 6yr. 75k sounds more like it
No chance you get the same comp. Also no bonuses
Yeah but the ESPP can outstrip Apple bonuses depending on where in the cycle you are. You can spend 15% of your base to buy shares at like 180 per share and sell at 530 per share. So let’s say you buy 22.5k USD and sell for 66.3K USD. That’s a 44K bonus basically.
Except if you join today your purchase price is the 530 not the 180 in your example. So the math doesn't make sense anymore.
IC4 at 6 Yoe is amazing, are you PhD ?
Yes
OP, I wouldn't leave. That's an amazing TC you have setup!
Also from what I hear the refreshes at NVDA are lower
I heard the other way... Refreshers are 30pc of initial grant for average performance at NVIDIA
We shall never truly know LOL
Refreshers are 60% of initial grant at Apple
I don’t think it will beat your current comp, should be around 250-300k TC
Yeh, Would be difficult for them to match. Unless they go out of the way to offer IC5.
With 600k outstanding RSUs and 6yoe it’s a difficult move. Stay where you are.
