Darn, this CEO deserves🏆 it's refreshing to know there are leaders out there who aren't idiots. Not all of them are "monkey see, monkey do" creatures, at least.. https://fortune-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/fortune.com/2023/10/14/nvidia-skips-return-to-office-sticks-to-remote-work-among-hottest-tech-companies/amp/
Excerpt: A few years ago, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg boasted, “We are going to be the most forward-leaning company on remote work at our scale, with a thoughtful and responsible plan for how to do this.” He estimated that about half of the company’s employees would be working remotely within the next five to 10 years. Fast-forward to today and his employees must be back in the office three days a week, with their presence tracked by card keys and other tools. Those failing to comply risk being fired or taking a hit on performance reviews. 🤪
When money is good, employers will do all things to please employees. The moment things turn south, you will see a different/ugly side of employer face. This has proven again and again by IBM, Google, Facebook. Nvidia is no exception. It’s just at a different stage of the lifecycle, thanks to the AI hype.
Nvidia stock dipped like everyone else’s post pandemic.
Nvidia stock was at $100 something, and yet Huang didn't force his RTO. He knows that RTO != Company performance. Being a founder, he optimizes for the longer term. Other CEO only care about meeting the quarterly results and performing financial engineering
Finally a real Man, unlike sissy Zuckerberg
Zucc will hire you remote if you can clear E6
But you all need to be working face to face so you can build the metaverse and then not have to work face to face!
Wait for their stocks to go down and he will change his tone overnight
Nvidia stock was down > 50% at $100 something, and yet Huang didn't force his RTO. Give credit where it's due. He's a founder thinking of long term growth. He didn't concern with quarterly results
Not a lot of jobs are remote friendly at Nvidia anyway ....
Are you sure of that? I have seen many from the hardware design and development divisions doing remote for years now 🤷♂️ Not sure about hardware testing teams though. Also I don't think they are a major chunk.
I'm not in hardware or swe but the positions I'm qualified for all requires 8+ yoe and only a few offer remote. Maybe it's just the nature of my position
Pretty sure hardware engineering isn’t a remote eligible thing, of course he doesn’t care about the other roles
Why isn't HW eligible? You realise few teams in NVIDIA actually work on PCBs and actual silicon?
Right — but wouldn’t actual silicon be what nvidia cares about out the most?
Great move. Thank you 🙏
Yeah until the stock dips for .2 seconds and the board starts demanding blood because they have the long term vision of a toddler.
If they fire JHH, the stock would tank much more than 0.2, he is the reason why Nvidia is so high, why it is there today. Firing him would be much worse for their investment, so they can't really do it. Also the stock dropped 50% about a year ago and yet there was no layoffs, not forced RTO
As others have mentioned, NVIDIA is doing unimaginably well. If that growth slows or dips, won’t be surprised if their tune changes
When they don't do well they just give employees more stock and reduce hiring backfills.
Stock Up = CEO nice Stock Down = CEO not nice
