How much can you pay for rent? I personally love the TriBeCa/soho area. They are close to chelsea and west village and TriBeCa is pretty residential as well. Plus it’s super convenient to go running on the west side highway from TriBeCa
Not sure how much is a good target amount to pay for rent on 145k salary
Probably between 3500-4000. You would be able to find a decent sized studio or a smaller 1 bedroom nice high rises in TriBeCa/soho. That would be my recommendation
I used to live in NYC after college before moving to the Bay Area. Upper East Side has a lot of young professionals, sports bars, good restaurants, museums and access to Central Park. West Side is similar with more subway lines. Harlem is awesome and it’s fairly easy to get to midtown from there. Brooklyn is fun but when I lived there my commute to midtown sucked bc it invoked a subway transfer. If you have friends already in NY I’d suggest living close to them or at least on the same subway line.
Any more info about where in UES? It's massive and seems very expensive towards the park and/or lower numbers. Wondering how livable accommodation is in the 80s.
Bronx
Harlem , Bronx? Crime capitals of NYC. Stay in Newport, Exchange Place or Hoboken NJ just across the Hudson, cheaper and save state tax -- PATH commute sucks though!
I’m new grad planning to join Bloomberg. My TC will be around 150k. Any idea, how much can I save by living in nj?
I grew up in Queens and love Astoria. The main thing I’d look for is being close to a train. BK and Queens are mostly non-train boroughs so find a spot you can walk around in and has the majority of what you need. The minute it snows or rains your commute will increase by 50% because of train traffic, more people using the trains and general MTA shittiness. Also as a backup check how long a cab or lyft ride is for late nights when trains run once an hour.
Just moved to the Franklin Ave/Bergen Ave intersection in Crown Heights, and I work in Williamsburg (previously lived in Williamsburg). I thoroughly enjoy where I live right now.
