Given all the rumors regarding TT ban and the fact that I'm in the final stage of interviewing with one of the remote companies, what do you think is a better option? I have to move to NYC in a couple of weeks due to my company's RTO. I applied for a nice apartment and got approved for it. The apartment seems decent enough, but it doesn't allow sublease/sublet, so I'd have to stay there for the entire year if I were to sign. What makes it worse, I already paid a 3k good faith deposit, so I gonna lose this money as well. Alternatively, I was thinking about living in Airbnb for a month until I can get a contract from a remote company or the TT ban situation is gonna become more certain. The downside of that approach is that I gonna lose quite a bit of money and if I were to stay in NYC, I'd need to go through the apartment search process once again.
Does the apartment allow month to month option? Most apartments do at a slightly higher rate per month(~5%)
Only after 1 year contract
Why would anyone want to live in that urban nightmare
You can secretly sublease/sublet but also break the lease down the road or find a tenant to transfer lease to. Can i ask how much your rent is?
3k per month for 1 bd apt
That's a steal, I'd keep it and if you need to leave, find someone to transfer the lease over to. I'm paying more for a studio lol.
Get one in Brooklyn, less risk of downside
You can sublease with some extenuating circumstances. I subleased my apartment during COVID. If you can convince the landlord it’s possible. Maybe talk to them first
It's a hard question to answer since I didn't live in the city before. I like the idea of it, but it would take some time to know for sure.
I thought TT didn’t have an eng presence in nyc. Is this non-eng?
