All NYC job postings now have to state the base salary. What are the highest base salary you have found for SWE? Here's what I found so far: 1. Citadel 150-300k (new grad) 2. Jane Street 250k (new grad) 3. Two Sigma 160-300k (1-10 yoe) Interesting findings: - Smaller firms like Rentec, Five Rings have very modest base pay. #swe #compensation #nyc #engineering
In general high comp in Wall Street firms banks/hedge funds also means you are highly expendable. Tech will always be viewed there as a cost center no matter how many times they claim the opposite.
You’re confusing traditional finance companies with trading firms. Places like Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, etc are not the places that offer elite comp. It’s places like Jane Street, HRT, Headlands, etc etc that are uber competitive and pay top dollar
Not confusing them see my other response on Jane street. It’s just that trading firms don’t hire the bulk of IT talent.
Jane street was always very selective about hiring and looks for some genius idiot savants to build their algo trading systems. Hence the high base to attract the talent.
Maybe, my knowledge of Jane street might be a bit dated
Jane Street is not even top 5. It’s super overrated on blind.
