I'm vnew to the org and am wondering if micromanagement is typical here? I mentioned that I would need to leave early to go to the gym and already received negative feedback on the topic.. flex hours don't seem to be a thing here, huh? Starting to wonder if I made a big mistake by coming here
You asked, during your interview, if it was ok for you to leave early to go to the gym? You’re the reason the market is the mess it currently is..
Actually, I would argue that there's a major issue in the industry of unhealthy lifestyles that view this as unacceptable
This is very team specific most of my peers and orgs that I work with bounce early by 3 , I'm usually the last to leave at 6+ but I don't show up until like 10.30-11.00 I do take a few early morning calls , if they are important. But depending on your org, NBCU has a lot of old school broadcast/cable mentality where micromanagement is frequent.
Must be team specific. My team doesn't clock in or out and basically runs on flex hours as long as you get your work done
Which team is this? I would like to apply
My team is in at 9ish out at 6pm... Anyone leaving early is looked at with a side eye. I wish it wasn't like this and we could all adopt a flex schedule but unfortunately my org is led by an old school person who's middle name is "micromanager".
9 to 6 is too much
As others have said, a lot is going to depend on your team and manager. I've had 4 or 5 managers so far and each has been incredibly flexible and supportive of work/life balance, mental health, and wellbeing in general. That being said, you also should be mindful of how your attitude is interpreted. For example if you give the impression that you're not willing to do the work needed to support the team, don't be surprised to get negative feedback.
Depending where you came & what you are used to in last job, from you might hate it or like it!
If you are very new to a job, maybe settle in a bit before dipping early for the gym.
I specifically asked this during my interview and also mentioned it on my first day to confirm it being alright and was told "yes that's fine"
