Nearly 80,000 Indian IT professionals on H-1B and L1 visas now jobless scrambling for options to stay in the US According to The Washington Post, nearly 200,000 IT workers have been laid off since November last year, including some record numbers in companies like Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon. As per some industry insiders, between 30 to 40 per cent of them are Indian IT professionals, a significant number of whom are on H-1B and L1 visas. Amazon staffer Gita (name changed) arrived in the US only three months ago. This week she was told that March 20 is her last working day. The situation is getting worse for those on H-1B visas as they have to find a new job within 60 days or else, they would be left with no other option but to head back to India. https://www.livemint.com/money/nearly-80-000-indian-it-professionals-on-h-1b-and-l1-visas-now-jobless-scrambling-for-options-to-stay-in-the-us/amp-11674456043653.html
It is what it is.
No meaning in posting it here or anywhere. People won’t show an ounce of empathy and instead shit on H-1Bs
c’mon hate the game not the players. these people don’t have ill intentions and have been paying taxes. if not empathy, at least stop the hate.
I m on H-1B and stuck in the backlog. I have empathy for them and I truly understand what’s going on and it is stressing me out. I am talking about some citizens or maybe some immigrants who don’t like Indians on H-1B.
I agree, a waste of talent.
But wouldn’t they need jobs in Canada to even go to?
At least from the Blind threads I read during good times of high tc and 3 job changes a year, many Indians did not like the US and were making plans to go back to India. Obviously it’s not everyone, but from those threads it seems like this accelerates an expected move already.
Never observed this theme on Blind. Most Indians here are grateful for the opportunities they got and for the fact that how America and Americans have been very welcoming towards them.
This theme is all over Blind. Some of it is H1Bs crapping on the US and presenting themselves as gifts that deserve immediate GCs while others are saying they’re only in the US for the TC and prestige so screw companies and they mostly want to stay in Indian communities. I have sympathy for having the additional instability and possibly of being forced to leave the US. That’s a tough situation. I’ll be honest that after reading Blind a lot, I have less sympathy due to reading the displays of entitlement and the disdain for the US displayed here. Fwiw, I was born in the US and come from a more recently immigrated family…one parent immigrated and the other is the 2nd generation born in the US.
Oh no, oh well
This is a good thing right? Honestly wondering why our govt doesn’t restrict this during times like these. It would benefit and protect both sides from these predatory companies.
Wait how is this a good thing for them when they have a constant threat of being forced back?
They are being protected from getting employed and exploited by their managers under threat of deportation, like slum dwelling slaves. Better to free them from the beginning and ask them to set down roots and families in their home country.
The number will only increase…. It’s a recession the govt isn’t admitting to.
The economy isn’t tech. When the total number of jobs is still growing at a pretty normal rate and there is also solid GDP growth (both still true) it’s not a recession according to any definition in use. It sucks for people in tech, but it isn’t a recession yet.
Well then this would be the first non recession when the yield curve is this much inverted
So? Why do we need to care
Republicans are planning to bring country quota for H-1B visas... India is 18% of world population but takes 80% of H-1B visas, 95% of H4-EADs and majority of L1s. That will change if GOP returns to power in 2024!!
Then why don’t you move there? Hypocrite
Uh oh! Okay
