Reader for the past few months now, first time posting. I have been in SAP world for past 10+ years (my entire IT career), started in the service industry, working for a consulting firm as a functional consultant and 5 years ago joined my current employer working as Technology Architect mainly in SAP area with a current TC of 140K. Since I am in Seattle, I understand that others here are making a lot more than I am and have a huge potential to increase their TC further. Whereas in SAP and the related world I do not see too much scope for TC increase, instead SAP skills would soon be legacy skills or might already be a legacy skill. My objective is to increase my TC. Since I do not have any development skills (as I do functional work), I wanted to know if someone can provide inputs on how to approach the move out of SAP skillset? I am willing to spend some time and learn something new, but given my lack of Dev skills, I am not sure how to go about it. On other threads, I have read the recommendation on practicing LC and trying for FANG, but again without any coding experience, not sure if that applies in my case. Should I try learning ML/AI online? Or maybe something else. 10 years ago when I entered IT, SAP was hot, not anymore. I fear that I have I have missed out on opportunities, and want to make a change, but not sure what my options could be. Posting a serious query, and hoping for some inputs from the forum. Thanks! P.S: I am Indian on H1B.
I spent 10 years in sap world.. decided to quit and do masters. Admitted to MIT and now working with a hot startup in bay
Thanks for your response. Can I ask if you were married when you started your masters? I am married with kids, so trying to understand the feasibility. Also if you could throw some light on the financial implications of doing masters, the overall fees and the loss of pay during that period etc.
I had wife and kid when I decided. but you canβt make incremental changes and expect a drastic change in your skill set or TC. Think big n radical. Best of luck
Get really good at sap security you will be bringing in 600k+ TC. sap is vulnerable like you donβt know.
Who is paying such huge amounts for SAP security skills? Mind elaborating?
Anybody the skills done exist. But Deloitte for example or any other big consulting firm. Banks or any other company that relies on SAP for mission critical apps. We are just starting to uncover all the vulnerabilities in SAP and no one has the right skills call it a gold rush.
Can you become an independent sap consultant?
Thanks for posting. I did give that a thought, but that throws the WLB out of whack. Also the worry about insurance and not having work all 12 months of the year. More imp, being on H1B its even more complex.
Donβt you only need 8k/yr tc increase to pay for insurance out of pocket?
Thanks to everyone who responded. Any further input would be really helpful!
I am just starting my career and need to choose between SAP Consultant and Data Analyst. Any advice?
My take is, in SAP world you would not make high TC, even though SAP will be around for a long time, its not a hot skill in the market. But if for some reason you have made up your mind on SAP, i would say go for data analyst, as that gives you options for future
you need a reason to leave sap??
No, i am lost on where to go, based on my on my past experience and skill set as explained in the post above
