What happens when most of your team is Indian?
I got a position fresh out of the military (background in Telecommunications) in April 2021. It's as an IT Auditor in the internal audit department for a private equity firm. Right now I have been fully remote but they require me to move to Connecticut by the end of Q2. I'm not particularly stoked about this because my quality of life will take a BIG hit. I have a wife (doesn't work) and one 9 year old. Pros about keeping the job: I have an MS in Analytics and they are looking to have me use my degree to not only audit the Advanced Analytics Department but also automate and integrate analytics into our audit operations. Cons about the job: I believe the TC is too low to adequately thrive in Stamford CT TC: 177 YOE: 1/13 #tech #finance
Fuck that third option, delete that shit. There are some things that you will have to learn now that you’re out of the military, yes. You’ve dealt with network that are probably orders of magnitude more important than some PE firm. If you don’t want to move, look for other jobs. You don’t owe the company anything - you provide a service for money. If they are not providing you enough money for their new requirement (you moving), find a new company.
Everything Amazon said here is true, and I back it. You said you've been fully remote for a while. Have you always been remote? Did you move away from CT after the pandemic hit? If you've always been remote, they've just altered the terms of your employment. Push for a TC increase that matches the increase in COL you're anticipating and also start looking at new jobs. If you find a place you like more than lets you remain remote, big win. If you get your current company to match your new expectations, also a win. If both happens, you're in a great spot.
@BreadTime they originally said you'd have to be regional so 4 hours from Stamford with the option to come in every now and then. So I asked for a TC comparable to Philly/Jersey (lower COL). Then they switched up and said they want people in Stamford CT. Housing is nuts and apartments are double what I pay here in Nebraska. But since I have been with the company, I have been 100% remote from Nebraska. No problems with productivity. It really doesn't make sense to move to Stamford when I have been doing the job this whole time fully remote.
