Got offer from FB Menlo Park E5. TC: 320k after negotiation. Currently at Amazon L5 Austin Texas, TC: 280k. I have 10 yrs of experience Not sure what to do. Have to decide by end of next week. What is your suggestion and why? Thanks for the help.
320 looks low. I have seen people here posting a lot higher TC for E5.
How high can it go? I tried negotiating for 2 weeks but not luck.

That’s a downgrade IMO .. 280 in Tx is more like 400 in the Bay .. plus shitty traffic and rents
Tell FB you’ll consider only if 400+ Makes no sense to take 320. Career progression is more or less the same FB or Amazon or google or any other big company unless you’re looking at a startup that’s not at unicorn yet.
If you stay at Amazon, your comp is going to plummet to 185k as soon as your on-hire grants vest. If you go to FB, 320k is the floor; it'll increase as your refreshers start to kick in. Ask FB for the Seattle office (cheaper CoL) and see if you can use your current above band comp to squeeze a bit more equity or a larger signing bonus out of them.
280k is my 5th year TC
Well, I suppose you had TT or something in the recent past so your fifth year has a refresher grant from ~1400/share...but even so, 280k is well above band, so you won't sustain it. TT would be 242k and HV (virtually everybody else who isn't on a dev list/PIP) is just over 180k. Regardless, E5 at FB >>>> L5 at Amazon in all respects. It's a more senior position with a higher ceiling, and FB is a flat-out better employer in general.
Austin is way cheaper. You’re getting a pay reduction if you accept. It’s hard to understand how expensive the Bay Area is until you’ve lived there a while.
What all is expensive other than housing?
Food (restaurants and groceries), drinks, utilities, household essentials, recreation
320k no RSU????
This is including RSU
I wouldn't focus so much on short term TC. What builds up your resume and skills? My guess is that FB will add a lot of value to your resume and diversify your skills allowing you to make more 10 years from now. This is assuming you join a good team. Whatever you pick, you are in a pretty good position.
This, plus networking opportunities. One of the things that motivated me to leave Amazon was that, after nearly 5 years, I discovered that 80-90% of my professional network (at least among the people I trusted and would refer or who would be willing to refer me) was also working at Amazon. Too many eggs in one basket and not enough diversity.

280k will go a lot further in Austin than 320k in Menlo Park. That being said future career progression will likely be better at Facebook / Bay Area so if that’s your deciding factor then go for FB.
