I am Columbia alumni
Got an offer from Amazon AWS team (infrastructure) in Seattle with following numbers : 140k base salary, 30k first year sign on bonus, 30k second year sign on bonus, 60 RSU vesting over 4 years 5/15/40/40. I have 8 years of experience with an MS. I wanted to know opinion from Amazons employees as what do they think about this offer ? Also, this is the initial offer and I have not yet started the negotiation, how should I approach the negotiation ? I have an offer from another company but it has a 130k base compensation and 20k bonus and no stock. Thanks, Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
This is not a software development position. This is in their infrastructure development team. I do understand most of the folks on this platform are SE.
What’s the role? HDE? PM? And which level?
It’s pretty good for L5
It’s a senior project engineer
Do you know if it’s L6 or L5?
I don’t, how do I find it out ?
Ask the recruiter... overall I think it’s a good offer, specially your base is pretty good for Amazon
And I think it’s L6 bc of the senior title
Thanks @Je)(:46!, assuming it is L6, would you happen to know the TC band ? Any tips on how to negotiate for a higher bonus/RSUs ?
I’m not sure about the TC band, but e.g. the base caps at $160k and I think for not having an engineering role(HDE or SDE) it’s a good base. I would still recommend to negotiate, start with base, sign on bonus and RSU. When I joined I tried to negotiate, but they didn’t change the initial offer. You have a high hand in negotiation only if you have another offer.
They offered me $230K for L6 14+ yrs of exp in AWS in Seattle .. actually I was not given an opportunity to negotiate. I should have asked for much more but anyways I am getting laid off in the current job as my entire group is getting dismantled so I wasn’t in a mood to negotiate more as I needed a landing pad.
What role is it? Project eng. As well? Do you think your coworkers are paid more?
Solutions Architect role
