Trump is threatening to ban Tiktok and other Chinese apps. Meanwhile I heard India also banned Tiktok and a few Chinese apps. How do app bans work technically? Internet is designed without censorship in mind. So I can only think of these scenarios below, which one is currently happening in India? (or will happen in US in the future) 1) ISPs like Comcast, AT&T will implement IP blocklist? Elon Musk's Starlink needs to implement this blocklist as well? but I guess swapping IP is easy job for Tiktok. So these ISPs will need a censorship team in the future keeping track of this kind of stuff? 2) Who ever hosted DNS server like Google's 8.8.8.8 or Cloudflare's something, need to remove DNS records from their server? 3) Apple will remove these apps from app store, but for those who already installed them on the phone, apps will continue to run if not because above 2 scenarios? 4) Just a legal thing, if you sit at home and use the app, nobody will notice? Since the ban already happened in India, can someone shed some light if you know?
Assuming it’s legal to ban, they’ll just force Apple and google to take them out of the store. That’ll stop the majority of people. IP bans are pointless.
If I already installed Tiktok on my phone, it will then continue to work, just a matter of I cannot get new updates
I think this should be the case
