TL,DR: Please help/DM for referrals. I used up some dm's already. Any small company will do. -Java backend -Spring boot -Distributed systems -REST -SOAP -NoSQL Databases -RabbitMQ -Kafka My pip story: I joined Amazon this July as a backend SDE. I was struggling a lot for a year to get into FAANG or any decent company. Timing and forgetfulness are mainly my issue. Finally, I was in final rounds in 7 big companies i.e Facebook, Uber, MS, Google, Asana, Expedia and couple others. Because I failed system design, I failed in all except Amazon and got as an L4. They didn't even let me take a break between my job change. They didn't wanted to let me give my previous employer 2 weeks notice. I pushed back but got no break. Why I joined Amazon: I was getting paid half of what I make now, I had financial constraints and my partner would be closer to me. I practically had zero onboarding. Additionally because I have experience, I was given a bigger project. With no support, I was slow as fuck. I was put on call for 2 weeks and was expected to finish it in the week of on call. It was very clear that they wanted me to work for 12+hours which I pushed back as I saw many suggest that on blind. I have 7 years experience but Amazon have made me doubt myself and get high anxiety every morning in the pit of my stomach. My stress level is way through the roof. I can't even take FMLA. Amazon has caused so much mental health issues that if things don't work for me as I am on visa, the worst is I have decided to go back home to be stress free. That will cause me and my partner to break up as well. I am trying hard to get a job soon and save my mental health and relationship. Already lined up FB, MS, Salesforce first round. But what my past experience has taught me is I don't do well in interviews. So I want more referrals as well. In fact I even want to go back to previous employer who paid me shit but treated me nicely. Please help/DM for referrals. I used up some dm's already. Any small company will do. I can assure you that you will definitely get a good chunk of that referral bonus :) I have been doing LC for 3 years now. Yoe 7 TC L4 🥜 #pip #amazon #referral #java #backend #sde #hire
Sorry for your situation op but in my non expert opinion you may want to see a therapist for some anxiety issues you could have
I've never experienced a company that wouldn't let you put 2 weeks notice into your current employer.
Folks this is why you never work for fucking bezos
You're telling me that there's a role for that?
PM me for referral to Oracle. I was considering an offer from Amazon but this post made me realize that would have been a stupid decision
If your employer, pay is good (even if it is not better) don't join Amazon. My pay was 65K in a some small town. So I took it. Now I am wishing that life back. They actually expect you to work 12+hours. I have seen my colleagues up working when I used to wake up with anxiety at 2:30 am to work as well.
The 2-week notice thing is strange to me, I was told I have to give my decision by end of business on Friday, 2 weeks before the start date on Monday, at AWS. I didn't even have any job at that time, and was open to starting earlier.
OP, even though you can't take FMLA, you're still eligible for STDI if you have anxiety. Of course, it doesn't protect the job, so, they could just fire you if you take it, so use it as last resort.
Thanks wawY45. I will look into STDI. I do have a lot of anxiety. The whole two weeks, my heart/stress( based on my watch) is all time high.
Sorry buddy. Amazon could be brutal for newbies. It’s kinda crazy this company has gotten this bad with this shitty culture. You need to prepare for interviews instead of saying you are bad at them. Maybe you need to change the way you prepare for them instead. I hope you find something better soon. One thing for sure you will be more appealing to recruiters at other big tech companies. Good luck. The job market is great now you will find something.
Are all companies now like this? Since the supply is so much more do companies not care about individuals now? I’m talking big companies apart from Amazon like FB, MS, google, Apple etc
Nope, this is an Amazon problem. Revolving door of desperate engineers.
But that’s a more common occurrence today right. The amount of engineers chomping at the bit to get into these companies is astronomically high, and everyone knows the blueprint. Leetcode, system design, ddia, luck I’m curious as to other companies are consciously or sub consciously changing to this model, because for them the downside is very low.
Stop doing work, get the severance, meanwhile keep interviewing.
May be Amazon hired you for URA quota. Bad. Anyway, keep applying for start ups as well.
What’s URA?
