Hello π, Here's my profile snapshot Solution architect @ HPE YOE: 8.5 Experience: VMware, Cloud(AWS,Google,Azure) TC: 40 LPA I have observed product managers and feel that my skill set and personality is apt for PM role. (Also architecture role was getting a bit repetitive for me) And hence I started preparing for PM 1. Started observing PMs more carefully inside and outside org 2. Joined a startup (part time) as Chief Product Officer and helped them to release their product. 3. Completed online training and joined forums. 4. Took up responsibility as PO at my organization What else shall I be focussing on? Note: I applied in a couple of companies for PM hoping that I will go through interview process but no calls. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated #pm #product #productmanager #lookingforchange

4yoe at Meta . Will job hunting be easier ?
Getting the call in India from non pm background is the greatest hurdle, because recruiters look for either mba or product manager in recent titles. The interviews themselves are pretty std and easy, submitting case study solutions are time consuming but a good reality check if you can do this role instinctively , but interviews have unpredictable outcomes overall. You should apply to core teams in Microsoft like many azure prog mgr roles they will call you they like more technical folks. In general for non pm background - join a startup full time for pm role, else apply for 100 companies to get a few calls, better to apply to HM who post openings on LinkedIn directly to get past Recruiters, else do a 1 year mba and get a role switch in campus placements, or try to move to pm role internally( this is the most common way to break into pm). You need to revamp your resume completely. A pm resume should not look like an architects resume. Folks from engineering background highlight things which don't matter to pms and what should matter such as business impact quantified, user research, outward facing responsibilties, sales enablement etc is not mentioned. Getting your pm resume right is your big first assignment.
Thanks for your response, would you mind reviewing my resume?
