Negotiate a promotion?
I'm a SDE1 at not Amazon and I feel like I will be promoted to SDE2 pretty soon. Can I negotiate the new offer or is it non negotiable?
Make sure to set expectation with your manager BEFORE you are presented with the offer. You can’t do anything after.
Like should I say I'm looking for an x% increase? Sorry but I have not had this kind of a conversation before and I actually don't know how it works.
You could research your title, location, level and go after a % (“I’m looking for at least X% increase”) or you could tell your manager that you’re expecting that “additional investment” in your comps, depending on how much your manager values you. One of my directs did his research and came back with an X% while comps were being drafted. It was shockingly close to what I would’ve offered him anyway.
It isn't a new offer. It's "congrats, here's an extra 8%." About all you can do is get another offer and see if they'll match it.
No
