Being considered for senior roles in Azure teams in Redmond. No discussion of TC yet. If I don't yet have competing offers, can I negotiate based on current TC? Want to know up front so I'm ready for the discussion. Thanks Yoe: 6 TC: $197k
Don’t be shy. Ask and you will get. MSFT wouldn’t shun you for asking for more. Especially in Azure. Also negotiate on level. Because it takes a while to get promoted.
Yeah I learned asking for a higher amount than they expected is usually better than asking for a lower amount.
I had an offer with Microsoft for level 62 ( not azure). Initial offer was 140/20/80, I asked recruiter for 150-60-160 as I have relevant experience in the same domain. I am not sure about the reason, but hiring manger wanted to talk to me. To my surprise, purpose of the conversation was to discuss TC, just TC. Manager gave final numbers in our call. To my surprise, they rescinded the offer with no explanation the next day. Only reason I could think of is asking for higher than what they wanted to offer.
If you want a more than 30% hike don't disclose your current TC at all. And tell them you expect market value. If you're forced to give a range of your expectations research levels.fyi and blind and give a bit more than what you think should will settle for.
Thanks for the response.I don't plan on disclosing current TC unless I get lowballed below it. I know Google typically disregards current TC and only considers competing offers. Curious about Microsoft.
