How soon do I cut to the chase? They held back numbers and made me go first (I know). I went high. They countered low. They said they weren’t like all those other recruiters and that there was no incentive for them to lowball me (I know). We’re supposed to talk again this week. Should I go ahead and get right to my “walk away” number or keep aiming high to try to get them closer first?
Know your worth and fight for that. Don't try to "pull one over" and don't devalue yourself either.
Company name?
Actually stating your worth first wasn’t a bad thing. During negotiations people tend to anchor around the first number said. They may still be low but I wouldn’t go for your walk away number for at least one more round.
You should walk away.
Know your value and give your Walk away number unless it's your dream company/job. It happened to me recently. I walked away because it's not my dream company and the TC they offered is less than what I value
Tell them No. remember, they want you.
Keep interviewing. Get another offer somewhere else while making inquiry after inquiry.
You will spend atleast a couple of years ... so get the TC right else say NO
You need a competing offer otherwise you may not be able to get what you want.
