Hello to everyone in the Blind Community, I just got a verbal offer from Tesla as an Integration Engineer and wanted an opinion about negotiating a salary(base + stocks) with them. Tesla is notoriously known for its low pay, but recent posts on Blind show that the numbers are going up. I have 4 years of revelant experience with same job at different EV companies. I don't want to overstep and ruin my chances at an actual offer and at the same time don't want to short sell myself. Any tips to negotiate a decent compensation is appreciated. Also, what range should I expect? #auto #tesla #interview
My guess is low 100s
Recruiter here. Just give us an expectation and if it’s below the midpoint we will push you up to that and if it’s above we have to chat with compensation + our director for approval. JUST BE HONEST IT MAKES EVERYTHING SO MUCH EASIER FOR BOTH PARTIES.
That's good advice! My concern was primarily about ruining my chances by asking for something along the bay area standards. It's been a long, hard interview process!
The goal of the recruiter is to land the candidate and ensure they’re happy with their offer. We have parameters but look to do what’s in the interest of both parties. Or dm me what you’re looking for and the role and I’ll tell you if it’s way out of ball park or reasonable
OP: What's your current TC?
120k base, plus 5k stock options
And that I'm assuming is 5k/year in stock options? I think you should demand $150-160k in TC.
OP - Apply to Zoox!
No, don't! Not much upside anymore.
Zoox has been very flaky. They contact you and then cancel the position. How is your experience at Zoox?
You don't think Tesla recruiters read blind?
We do(;
Lol thought so,. People are obviously oblivious.
I got 116 base with 2.5 years in consumer electronics as a mechanical design engineer. That being said, the integration team is always totally fucked and you're going to be constantly swamped with work, so you should make more
What’s the job description for an Integration Engineer anyway?
Depends if it's for SW or HW. HW integration sort of coordinates the packaging of the different components in vehicles. It's a pain for them because a lot of the teams are behind and dont have time to work on new programs. that means the integration engineer will have to hold space for that teams components without really knowing how much room they need. An even worse case is that the integration engineer needs to design some of that teams components
Get more stocks cuz of the volatility
Here is my 2 cent: Don't ruin your opportunity being myopic with TC. Get what you can, work hard, learn as much as you can, move on to the next position, if that happens inside your company great, otherwise the Bay has many more opportunities to offer. TC will come.
Not sure about your role but with stocks pumping I don't know how Tesla is making with RSU. Base is going to be lower and expect to be real swamped at work. DP is to look at past h1b filing base pay for similar roles.
Ask them for a range for the position, then use that info to tell them your offer
The recruiter insisted that I tell them a range first, meanwhile he will check with the team. Do you suggest I hold out on giving a number until they do?
Yes, hold out and wait for them to come up with a number first. Meanwhile decide what you want in case they want to play games and lowball
