Does anyone know who would be the best person to talk to about possibility of getting a remote arrangement or switching an office location to a different state for Bloomberg? I am in the final round and have been told that this is team-dependent, so am curious who should I talk to? Recruiter, manager, head of the department? Thank you! #bloomberg
A recruiter I spoke with told me that no one is allowed to be fully remote, it’s mandated 3 days a week in office. Not sure if that’s true but that’s what the recruiter told me. I would definitely reach out to your recruiter
Some people have full remote, but they have a proven track record and tenure.
It's allowed but it's based on tenure. If you've been at Bloomberg for less than 5 years there's no chance of being fully remote.
Discuss with your manager. He can call the shot for you.
Bloomberg won’t negotiate full remote with a new hire.
Team dependent. You can be full remote, but that's the exception and not the rule. Switching offices generally requires switching teams so you are located with the team. Note that the vast majority of engineers are in NYC and London. The SF location has a few dozen at best.
More importantly unless it's a medical temporary arrangement, even applying for fully remote requires you be at Bloomberg 5 years first. Zero chance of you negotiating this. Trust me I've tried. If you are happy 3x a week in a Manhattan office, go for it. If you are looking for Princeton NJ or maybe SF, there's a slight chance but unlikely. If you are looking for elsewhere or remote, don't bother. I don't care what your recruiter tried to tell you, it will not happen at Bloomberg.
A high-performing team member got approved for fully remote with only two years of experience.
TC role YOE please
How’s the internal mobility process looks like in BBG?
Encouraged and facilitated by an internal job board. We also get newsletters about it. If you are unhappy Bloomberg rather see you try with another team than leave the firm.
However, internal mobility refers to switching teams, not switching locations. You can only move elsewhere if you find a team in the office you want and 95%+ of US Eng is in NYC.
Haven't heard this ever done for new hires. As someone said above, solid and reliable engineers with a proven record can get that as an exception. New hires - doubt.
😂, remote location? You have the wrong idea of Bloomberg.
Finally someone sharing the truth !!
Possibility is zero
Bloomberg is not a remote company. They sound cool like tech but shots are not called by engineers. Unless you are willing to go full time in their NYC office joining BB is mistake. Sense their culture and ignore their words.
Remember this is coming from a company that has Friday as business casual wear. They wanted formal attire for engineers. This was changed because they couldn’t steal talent from big tech despite being heavy on cash. BB is not meant for everyone.
I mean, at least that part changed completely a long time ago. See plenty of eng in jeans and a hoody any day of the week.
