I’ve been nominated for promo with full support of my manager chain, and I want to make sure COL, inflation, and a reasonably higher equity bump are factored into my new base and TC. Level: L4 -> L5 (non-tech PgM) Current RSUs: 70k USD Current base: 69,5k GBP Bonus: 15% for CME; received EE last cycle and (if they follow through) upcoming promo YOE: 4 UK inflation July 2022: 10% No convos have happened yet, but I want to come prepared. If I don’t receive it, I’m aiming to request 95k-97k GBP base but want to know if I’ll just get a laugh in my face, given significantly lower salaries in the UK. Liquidity is important to me right now. Looking for thoughts on this estimate + personal experiences with negotiating comp up during or after promo. #comp #grad #promo #google #London #emea #tech
Your new promo comp is autogenerated - it’s not like negotiating a new job offer that’s not how it works. You’ll be given figures and you’ll take it regardless. Nothing you can do about it internally
I doubt you can negotiate promotion numbers unless its a retention case where you show them an external offer and they wish to match to retain you!
This is where timing is tricky – If all things have gone as well as I’ve been made to believe they have, I intend to be extended an offer at a different pre-IPO company for the same L5 level in the next few weeks – big that’s way ahead of GRAD outcomes IIRC. Not sure how to make the ‘retention’ play with this timing, but will hopefully have hard numbers soon
4 years of experience,, you are looking for L5 promo? You will be disappointed Piece of advise - if u want hike get a job and demand it.
What will be disappointing about looking for L5 promo at 4 YOE?
In the US you only get a max(6% bump to base, min L5 base) and nothing more. Your refresher range will increase but you won’t get any instant stock grant.
That’s helpful to know, thanks. Do you know anything about if inflation-based pay rises will be incorporated into base pays this year (regardless of the bonus scheme you’re in)? I’ve heard talk of it, but can’t pin down answers.
Inflation is discussed every year during compensation planning but definitely not during your promo raise discussion. So you will get 2 different raises
