In offer discussion phase with Netflix. Team seems pretty excited to have me, final numbers yet to hear. I searched blind for stories of work culture etc. I see lotsa great feedback from Netflix employees saying its not as bad as it looks (when it comes to letting go). Would like to hear negative stories from people who were let go (if any on blind) or any netflix employees who had peers who were fired and know in details why they were with specific examples. What kind of feedback were you given? When they say not start performer or culture fit and hence let go, I am looking for specific feedback given and not high level. I am pretty excited about the team there but at the same time I am on H1B , so the fear is real. Any genuine feedback would be much appreciated ! Thanks in advance!
What's the offer?
dodge it
Do not go to Netflix if you're on an H1B. Don't do it.
Don't do it dude.
I was in similar situation, with Netflix offer the highest. Didn’t join being on H1b. I did a poll with (ex-)Netflix employees, if they come to work every day with the fear of losing job, 50% responded positively.
If you are confident in your ability to do great work, and you in fact do deliver great work, then joining us will be the best decision you’ll make professionally. But, if you aren’t confident in your abilities, or have the tendency to want to skate by, then Netflix is not the place for you.
That is a very generic statement, basically can u give examples of not great work which made people get fired? “Great work” definition differs for every company and i am just trying to figure out that for Netflix in terms of example feedbacks , that way i have a realistic idea of if i can make it. If you can give some expectations for great work or examples, that would help. Thanks!
Great work means quality. It means collaborating well with not just your team, but with cross functional teams. Proven ability to own a project and make good decisions regarding its direction. Being thoughtful and making decisions not because it’s best for the short term, but what’s best for the company/project in the long run. Meeting deadlines. Communicating articulately and early if you think you can’t make that deadline. Seeking challenges out, rather than sitting back and waiting for your manager to assign something. Once you find something, taking the initiative to see it through. If you aren’t self motivated and constantly need a push to deliver or take on new projects, then you won’t last here.
Come here with H1B if you are confident you are within top 1% of your field. Good luck!
