As a foreigner who has never been to India I have always been fascinated with the country and the culture. I was Interested in hearing any thoughts around the new Netflix movie White Tiger and I would also like to hear any stories or experiences that are unique to India and it’s culture.
I watched it as an American and was wondering how accurate the portrayal of technology advancement is. It seemed like Bangalore and to a certain extent Delhi are developed. How are there so many smart SWEs on Blind if common villages barely have access to Internet? Are Blinders the 1%ers of India or does the movie only show a sensationalist view of underdeveloped India? Also, was the whole caste thing overdramatized? I heard case discrimination is similar to racism in America does that sound about right? I see many Indians on Blind want to move back to India is that simply for camaraderie and feeling of belongingness? What they showed in the movie it seems like it would be hard for an Indian to readjust to moving back to India from America.
Also curious about that
I'd say the Blind folks are more likely in the top 10%.
Do they really treat servants like slaves and do servants really act like that? Oh don’t pay too much, you’re like my mom and dad master, etc?
For a white collared population, house-maids and other folks like drivers or other blue collared people on whom they depends for a day to day help should be treated as kings and queens....if they are even scolded for improper work ...they threaten to quit...😂... The situation now has changed a lot...even in villages everyone is nowadays educated and they shun away from doing farming or working as farm laborers.... White collar is only half truth....that can gather money in foreign media...is you look it ...I don't even see a Hindi language option on it...they did not even want to target the Indian audience...
To quite an extent, yes
Oppression of poor in Asian, African, South American countries is clearly visible but hear in US is more nuanced - poor and uneducated are getting screwed over generation after generation in developed, developing and under developed nations equally well. Are poor people happy in India? They have accepted realities of life and find meaning in small things to be happy and laugh.
Agree with the comments of movie being a one sided view.. Check thebetterindia.com for some heart warming current stories of India.
I don’t agree that white tiger is one sided view of India. When majority of Indians are poor and have to go through what’s depicted in the movie, it is THE side of India that one needs to focus on. Of course there will be the exceptional rags to riches stories, but that’s all that they are - exceptions. Servants are treated like sh!t in India and they are made to believe that that’s the best life they can ever have because they belong to the lower caste or they don’t have money. Class-ism is rampant in India.
From Western PoV, there is huge imbalance. Indians never agree to that. Also, this inequality is much more common in North India. The one shown in movie is the worst of the this kind South does not(or almost not) have sharp caste feelings to discriminate. There is caste feeling just to fight, most likely on same level
You wont be able to survive the traffic in our India. Only that is certain
White tiger is not a representation of India. Stories like White tiger maybe one small part of India. Plus the story of white tiger itself is something I did not like at all. I felt it was totally biased, like the author trying to convince the audience of a very biased notion he has and ignoring everything which discredited his bias, facts included.
Movies are allowed to biased, its not a university lecture
I am very much Indian. One word for the movie: Pathetic. Simply because the poor indian is shown as someone without any morals. He kills the one character that is really nice to him!!??
White Tiger is a one sided view ...they just want to focus on things which can attract western audience and media.... There are several more beautiful things like culture and variety that could have been depicted.....another slumdog millionaire kind of movie... I personally did not like dramatizing only the dark side of things....
Can you share some of those light sides? Anecdotes, stories....
Oracle, what was wrong with white tiger? Shows the current status pretty close. I am assuming you haven't been to rural areas of UP and Bihar.
