Hi, for those who have done an onsite at Netflix - how long did it take to hear back on the result, who delivered the news to you, and how did they do it (phone/email)? Any insight would be appreciated. Couldn't find any posts about this on here.
Next day usually in 48 hrs
Was it thumbs up or thumbs down for you, who delivered the news and was it call or email?
Thumbs down ad it was phone call
Took 3 days for me. I got a verbal offer
Did you move? And why?
I joined fb
Got a phone call from the hm - no offer
reasons?
Experience in the area. Good feedback on cultural fit and overall ability. Disappointed but understandable.
Same day positive feedback
you accept?
Yes. But left since
Interviewed Friday, got news from hiring manager personally in a phone call on Monday. It was a reject but hm explained the reasons pretty well and I somewhat agree with the reasons (i.e. me being not the perfect fit for this particular role). Altogether pretty honest feedback and informative call,. They seem pretty picky about finding people who fit perfectly on a particular role, but hey, since they pay $$$ they can and should do it.
If you don't mind sharing, what was the feedback on why you weren't the perfect fit?
summary of feedback on why not good fit (the role was for some eng productivity team): 1. not enough experience with work at scale (mostly creating some tool / reuse libraries that are being used by hundreds of engs and gathering requirements from them). 2. My interests are way broader, they'd like to have someone who's very excited about a particular tech / topic that is part of the role. Both are true. While the first one is something that I think I could easily overcome, the second one is not an easy fix. The role was about supporting / rolling out / evangelizing a particular technology throughout the company. While I have actual production experience with that tech and was the first one to select and introduce it in my current company, it's something I'm just 80%, but not 100% excited about and the role would've very focused on that tech in the first months / years. I asked a lot of questions about what other things I could do in this team and that I'd not like to overspecialize myself on this tech, at least on the long term, so I guess that raised some red flags. They said in general I did pretty good on the interview, just that this particular role is not the best fit. They offered to connect me with other managers / teams if I find a role that I'm a better fit for, but I didn't see anything super interesting (compared to my other offers) on their portal currently. That being said - no regrets. I have other offers with not-so-specialized roles in hand and while Netflix would've probably paid ~20% more TC, it's probably better to do something I'm 100% excited about, especially since my own performance is highly correlated to my excitement. I must say though I kinda like the culture incl. the firings (especially haved worked at a company like SAP where low performers are just tolerated indefinitely), but at the end I also must be 100% excited about the actual work.
