Netflix is a dream company for me. Interesting tech space, top tier all cash compensation. The only turn off is apparently Netflix fires even more aggressively than Amazon? But does anyone know if Netflix has a firing quota like Amazon or is it only if you perform poorly? And do you get chances to improve or do they fire you almost instantly? I'd love to hear Netflix employees talk about their experiences there. Any insight would be appreciated. #Netflix
Does this competition exist at Amazon?
Yes. People try very hard to make themselves look good in front of managers for their career progression It can be excessive at times
So, it’s upto the Manager to decide others future at Amazon
Yes, look up the keeper test.
I read about that but is it actually enforced that way? Are managers constantly pressured to find someone on their team that is a low performer who they wouldn't fight to keep even if their whole team is good?
No, they aren't
We don't have quota, period. Some team goes years without firing anyone. Some team was hired by a bad manager and the new manager fires everyone in no time, it happens both ways
So just find a stable team to join I guess? But do you have a choice once you pass the bar? Or do they assign you a team?
In general you'll be interviewing for a specific role in a specific team. It's possible HR/HM knows of a better team for you if they liked your interview but thought there was a skill mismatch, but in general you'll be interviewing specifically with the team (and some other closely aligned teams) that you'd be working on.
Curious about what it’s like as a PM there as well as the interview process. There’s basically no info available

I have an old coworker that works there. They say those stories are just angry people who were clearly underperforming. Did an interview loop myself there last year and heard something similar from several interviewers. Nice people and smart.
Interesting. So you believe there is no PIP quota then like Amazon? As long as you do your job, you are fine? You aren't constantly competing with co-workers for survival?
No quota. People get let go when they constantly underperform and it seems they get plenty of time to try and correct the behavior before the final straw. At least that was my understanding. And yes, just do your job and you’ll be fine. The coworker competition doesnt seem to be prominent at netflix because everyone is a senior engineer so no one is stepping over each other for promos or things like that
