Netflix pays around 300k cash for a SWE with 3yoe and around 500k+ for 6yoe+. Then why don't I see a lot of ppl on blind trying to get into Netflix as compared to FAAG? Isn't it all about TC here on blind, then why no/less Netflix chatter in here!?
Same reason why there isn't as much chatter about Rentech, Jane Street, HRT, and Citadel
I don't know that reason either
Smaller size/not as many LX (or whatever grade NFLX uses) that pay 300K compared to L5s, E5, etc. of FAANG (minus N)
Because not one wants to move to Los Gatos or commute to it.
So you are saying commute > TC, I don't believe it.😂
Yes, especially if it is 2 hours 1 way
I saw few posts about ruthless pip culture at netflix, maybe that is the reason
Pip culture , more like fire at will culture. Pip at least means you get a month to find a new job, but anyway they pay you to compensate for that culture so to each his own
Netflix will pay you 4 to 6 months of severance if you’re not a right fit. Isn’t this better than your PIP?
I heard that 300k os everything. U have to manage ur 401k, health insurance etc
Oh so no insurance and 401k match/account?
@13djve66 and @Mr.MCB this is incorrect. Netflix gives 15k for health insurance plan, and any money you don’t use (up to 5k) you get to keep. They match 100% to 4% contribution for 401k or something like that. This info is widely available if you just look on the Netflix careers page or any of the hundreds of Blind posts. There seems to be a fair number of people with misinformation about Netflix.
I feel like Netflix was the TC god a few years back but now other companies are creeping up to that level of pay. I mean sure it might still be top payer but the risk to reward ratio is not worth it when you have comparable offers.
What risk? You mean just their fire fast policy or anything else?
Yes and personally I feel like it’s a very congested market now with a lot of studios making moves.
FWIW I think in 2020 Netflix doesn’t have a single SWE they are hiring at less than 400k EDIT: this is not necessarily true as confirmed by a netflixer
Even 3yoe? 😮
@13djve66 people with 3 YOE are, from my understanding, pretty rare at Netfix. Those would be very advanced candidates specialized in a certain domain. Or someone with a PhD. But if a candidate with 3 YOE were brought on as SWE I highly HIGHLY doubt they’d be offered less than 400k. To clarify, this is only from the extensive research i have done across multiple platforms. I feel confident this is correct though.
I’m guessing either: 1. They are happy with their TC and have no reason to skulk here like us 😂 2. Busy getting worked to the core to try keep their high TC jobs, thus no time for anything else. 3. All of the above.
😂
That is not true. Many left Facebook that I know, for different reasons, but Netflix never offered them
500k for 6 years is false. I am doing way less than that with 15 years. It really depends of your skills, teams etc
Are you an engineer? We are talking about engineering here.
Why don't you go other FAANG instead then? 15 yoe could get you L6 at least.
Depends on domain skill. Some make less, some make 400. Some make 500. A few I can count on one hand make a million.
How do they determine that for every employee/skillset? For ex, what are the most valued and least valued skills?
Netflix has ver less employees as compared to other companies and they have a very strange hiring process. I personally have talked to 2-3 managers and even though my profile matches with the job, they rejected without interviewing
Agree, same experience here. My interview was good too. Those employees are kind of scared to let new ones come in because of the firing culture at Netflix
I am glad I am not the only one. I posted my experience in a different thread and people trolled me
