Netflix lost 430,000 subscribers in the US and Canada in the second quarter and issued weaker than expected forecasts for later in the year, rekindling investor doubts over how the streaming group will fare after the economic reopening. The company predicted it would add 3.5m subscribers in the third quarter, disappointing investors who were looking for a stronger rebound in the second half of the year. Analysts had forecast that Netflix would add 5.9m subscribers during the third quarter. In the past year and half, Disney, Apple, WarnerMedia, Comcast and others have launched streaming platforms, and there are more than 100 streaming services for consumers to choose from. https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2021/07/netflix-bleeds-subscribers-in-us-and-canada-with-no-sign-of-recovery/?amp=1
Netflix going down? 😏
Even in india, Amazon, Hotstar and SonyLiv are fast depleting Netflix share.
And in the rest of the world it's going to be Disney+, HBO Max, and also Prime to a lesser extent.
If any company wants another lockdown it would be Netflix. I think they benefitted the most in terms of sub growth.
More than Robinhood?
Touché
It's because they keep canceling shows after 1-2 seasons.
This. But prime and everyone else does this too :/
No one buys subscribes to prime for prime video though. If they charged a buck extra for video, I bet there subscriptions would go down 90%.
Good job Netflix! Raise subscription prices and bleed subscribers!
It takes a lot of $$$ to produce all those "Netflix original" copies of the shows you actually want to watch.
Wow. Good topic to discuss on blind
Netflix has finally reached saturation. It will all be a crab walk from here
😂
Your logic is irrefutable
Netflix is learning what others have known for awhile; content is king. They had a wide economic moat when their delivery network was far ahead of everyone else’s, but now that everyone can support streaming and on demand viewing/binge watching their competitive edge in the space has disappeared and now it’s back to who has the best product (and that comes down to content). Ultimately Netflix puts out good shows/movies occasionally but people are realizing that it’s not worth having a monthly subscription when getting a one off month every so often to catch up will suffice. On top of that Netflix increasingly looks expensive compared to Disney and Amazon and doesn’t provide the content quality of HBO or the live offerings of YouTube. They have quickly found themselves where their market share is their only discernible advantage but it doesn’t feel as if they will be able to capitalize on it before it also disappears. It’s sad because IMO Netflix still has the best interface and recommendation functionalities, but when all they can do is recommend the best of the worst, it’s hard to justify the price some months.
Reed has known that from day one - they started buying (not leasing) content back when they only shipped DVDs. It's their execution that's been lacking.
That’s fair and also more disappointing in a way; nothing worse than understanding where your gaps are and failing to fill them YoY
Netflix original content is not good that anymore. I also keep switching between different streaming services time to time
