Why do you all keep cancelling great shows like Archive 81 meanwhile we have 13 versions of Love Is Blind and whatever the fresh hell that Selling Sunset is? #netflix
Mindhunter is the real shit. Sad to see it go.
personally we should have them all. prestige shows + unscripted as for why love is blind, maybe tell people to stop watching them if you want less of it
Netflix brings a very naive tech culture strategy to this. They conceive of the shows in terms of their own bargaining power. Something like Archive 81 for example - the writers and actors can command bigger contracts because it requires niche talent to pull it off and tell the story consistently. Netflix doesn’t want to be in the position of lesser negotiating power so they cancel it, don’t even consider the feeling of the customers and justify it with grossly wrong assumptions about low impact of many niche prestige shows. The reality trash and the dime a dozen trash like yet another poorly dubbed Harlan Coben throw away mystery series with terrible acting and screen writing, especially when all of it is done as limited series or anthology style, means the cast & writers (especially overseas) have very little negotiating power. It’s cheap and disposable, and Netflix has the grossly wrong assumption that if they scale that out they can be a dominant service in all households. What Netflix does not realize, which HBO Max had to painfully realize too once it finally caved to make a deal with Amazon, is that it is a _channel_ and it absolutely is not a _platform_. It’s upside is capped by whatever niche audiences it can captivate with special content. And as they are learning now, you cannot captivate “all households” with $20/month prices for garbage trash reality and trash force-fed foreign dubs. The sooner Netflix realizes it is more like Showtime than it is like Disney+, the better. Until then it will just be slow tragic slide to lowest common denominator garbage with unsuccessful quarter after unsuccessful quarter.
Their culture is built around the idea of being in a position of power starting with managers being able to fire randomly. The quality of employees also similar to the strategy you mention.
I love selling Sunset 🥺
Selling Sunset sucks even for trash TV standards.
Reality show and all fake shit like that is trash tv
