How to prepare for an onsite for sde role at Netflix? I have gone through their culture deck and have multiple examples showing cultural fit. Also solved leetcode tagged, although there aren’t many but don’t know where to go from here. I have been doing generic interview prep, just looking for netflix specific resources here. Thanks in advance. Yoe: 4 Tc: 220k #netflix #interview
Prepare by gathering stories of times you’ve been in difficult situations, and how you got through to the other side. They are going to want to see times where you made a call, and it ended up being the wrong call. What happened? Why did it happen? What did you learn? Another example is a time when you’ve had a disagreement with your manager. Specifically, one where you lost the fight. What was the outcome? Were you wrong? We’re you right? If you were right, why did you give up? You can see the conversation can go all sorts of ways. They are looking to see if you have real experience with difficult situations. Or are you in the opposite camp? You get along with everyone. No disagreements. No feedback. That tells the recruiter that you’re type of person who goes with the flow - which is not what Netflix is looking for. Tech wise, it’s very rare to get a real leet code question. The questions are usually very very specific to the role you’re interviewing for. So just make sure you review areas of your domain and prep deep in some specifics so you can speak to them and lean into them if it comes up.
@nfnf thank you for such a detailed response. I’m very nervous about the interview so really appreciate this! How about system design? Should going through grokking and some articles on netflix engineering blog be enough? Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to start ddia now.
nfnfnfnf advice is spot on. the behavioral interviews are going to dig super deep into what you did, what occurred, what you learnt from it, and how you incorporated that learning into your future way of working. if you're in a more senior role, they'll also look at if you took that learning and abstracted it out either for similar scenarios you might face in the future, or for other people in your team. if you're looking for practice - prepfully has some very good ex-netflix coaches who do behavioral mocks eg. https://prepfully.com/coaches/6KOOVK. they do charge $ so i'd recommend only for "last mile" prep or if you're feeling uncertain/underconfident.
Can you please your interview experience?
