Netflix streaming vs Amazon video streaming

A few years back Netflix was the dominant streaming video player. Over the last couple of Amazon's offering seem to have improved. Also I really like the idea of being able to buy a recent movie which I want to watch. Is Amazon going to do to Netflix what Netflix did to blockbuster? Thoughts on the above?

Amazon video still have a long way to go. First, the Netflix apps are the best on the market, even that is still far from perfect. Amazon video apps are a bit awkward. Netflix exclusive content quality and quantity sky rocket the last couple of years. Amazon just have a few, and they are not that impressive. On the other side, I think Amazon have something going with the HBO deal.

Netflix because of their strong Originals lineup. Amazon's assortment and interfaces are getting better but I find myself only going to them for things like The Grand Tour.

I think Netflix will do to Amazon what it did to blockbuster again...

I'm biased but frankly I have both and will continue to have both for a long time. Channels content is pretty killer (HBO, STARZ, etc) and set top Amazon app is better than Netflix (even better with a FireTV). On Mobile I feel like Netflix kicks our butt except for downloads. But Netflix is new to that arena. Also, I purchase stuff all the time, which Netflix doesn't offer. Netflix's catalog size is on a downward trend and Amazon's is on an upward trend. I don't see a clear winner anywhere. I don't think either is going away. Even if Amazon Video was losing money, it's a Prime sticky point so it would be hanging around. Hulu might end being the Blockbuster you were talking about. But Hulu seem to be doing well enough I'm not expecting them to drop out.

I think Prime and Netflix will do to cable TV what Netflix did to blockbuster

Agree to that, it has been a couple of years I have opted out of cable tv.

Netflix is way better than Amazon video User interface is easier and more intuitive Each one in my family can have their own profile Content is much more and better Amazon I have a tough time browsing all the prime only videos It keeps getting mixed up with non prime when I go from one selection to other similar types etc

I compare Xbox apps: both are horrible. Netflix is less horrible though.

I really like the roku search feature. Between amazon video and Google play or fandango I can find pretty much every movie under the sun for ~$3. Not needing to crawl out of my pajamas and roll off my sofa on a Friday night to go to redbox == priceless

Canceled Netflix - not enough content that interests me.

I still have Netflix subscription but many a times am tempted.

I'm biased obviously but I don't think you can even compare the two from a UX perspective. The Netflix apps are far better. Amazon browsing is painful and feels several years behind. From a content perspective, they both have good stuff and are worth every penny.

Don't get cocky. Netflix search experience makes me curse EVERY TIME. Amazon's UX is a bit awkward and very crowded, but it's not as bad as Netflix's, with giant ads for shows I don't want to see, the search box jumping up and down the page, and showing stupid "related to what you actually wanted to see" results, like they're substitute goods. The other day, I wanted to see some old Tom & Jerry. Netflix doesn't have it, and Amazon makes you have to press "play" for each 7-minute episode. I'm ready to pay, but in the year 2017, it's still more convenient to watch illegally. This should not be the case, and because it is, I still think there's room for more players to try their hand at this market.
