Got L4 offer for Netflix with $360k TC and a startup offer as with 3 YOE. The startup is a series B firm, worth about $1.5B, and has a bunch of strong engineering talent. The startup would need to roughly 2.5x to match my Netflix TC. Here are my arguments for and against the startup: + More interesting work on a fairly technical product and potentially better growth opportunities + I'm somewhat optimistic about company growth + I've generally picked the safer options in my career, might be time to take a risk + Possibly lower expectations due to worse interview performance + Startup avoided layoffs and was able to raise money last year - Much lower current TC and worse benefits (overall better quality of life at Netflix) - No office in my city (both roles are remote, but Netflix has an office in my city and I'd like to go into the office sometimes) - Probably worse WLB and worse oncall (although both oncalls sound bad) - Based on the meetings we've had, I slightly prefer my Netflix manager What do you all think? Not going to put up a poll because I want to hear people's thoughts
Better put up a poll
With 3 yoe better to join netflix. Once you have good (practical) engineering knowledge, then try for startups. Having meta and Netflix startups will pay a lot
How was the Netflix interview?
Not as hard as I thought they'd be, but I think I had an especially lax interviewer for my system design round
How many coding rounds and system design rounds ?
Netflix. Startup environment is really risky right now
Straight Netflix 💯
Startup equity seems pretty useless to me. Look at all the huge private companies that are choosing not to IPO nowadays. Seems like such a massive pipedream idk
The start up is not going to IPO any time soon. I would go with Netflix because already higher TC there will ensure higher TC in the future and also, Netflix is a stronger signal than the start up
When you said the start up would 2.5 march Netflix TC, how much the base is? If you can make it closer to $360K, seems not a bad idea. With just 3 YOE I won’t expect that high though, if it’s just $180K, imagine you only get half on the paycheck, worse brand on resume, and all the uncertainty… Netflix no brainer
At 3 yoe I would never take a start up over Netflix. The money aside, Netflix on the resume can boost your future earnings a lot.
Sorry but I won't be able to respond to DMs because I can't sign into the Blind mobile app on an ex-Meta account
